More about Maison MK
We booked our room at Maison MK before it had opened it's doors which turned out to be one of the best hotel choices we have ever made. The riad is beautiful and the care and attention to detail is genuinely unsurpassed. The courtyard and roof terraces were so stunning that for one whole day we couldn't bear to tear ourselves away. Our room was beautifully presented with a chill out seating area, lavish bathroom and hugely comfortable bed. The staff were all excellent especially Fausi who made sure we got home safely at night and Hasna the beauty therapist who is a miracle worker. Jallel and Pauline provide an excellent management team who made us feel welcome and ensured we enjoyed our stay from the moment we arrived. All the smaller touches from the beautiful tableware, relaxed seating and fantastic lighting to the mini bar munchies and luxurious bed linens made Maison MK one of a kind. I truly hope we get to visit again and more than that hope everything about this place stays exactly the same because it is quite simply perfect!
A superb experience which started with a warm welcome at the airport from two of the staff who then effortlessly transfered us to the peace and calm of the Maison MK. This straight away eliminated the rigours of the airport RED TAPE/QUEUES! They were so helpful here, I wonder if Jallel/Pauline could go down to the airport and sort them out for future guests!?
The ryad has just been completed and is well designed with a lot of space around it for guests to hide away or socialise!? A cinema room, lounges and internet access (computer provided if required!) were welcome additions. The bedroom/bathroom were superb and designed well, with ipod and mobile phones provided as an interesting extra touch!
The roof terrace is where you spend most of your time and it was a great setting for an afternoon/evening drink. The sun loungers and seating was more than ample. It was also a wonderful breakfast setting, which was served at a time to suit you!
As mentioned earlier the staff were excellent, and I mean all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they took time out to ensure your stay was a good one!
My only moan (but this applies to all of Morocco I have experienced!) is that the pool should be heated!? A really minor thing, when you consider the quality of the stay/experience here!
Loved Maison Mk
My husband and I have just returned from a four day break at Maison Mk (minus children!). This was our first visit to Marrakech and we have had a fab time. The riad really made the break special. It was an absolute oasis of calm and tranquility, the service was fantastic. We had breakfast and lunch there most days and dinner on one evening and all were fantastic. A special thankyou to Jallal and Pauline and all the wonderful staff there.
P.S. The massage was amazing and much better than any I have had in England.
Our new home in Marrakech
Very often the images on a website do not live up to your expectations when you arrive, however, even though the website is good it cannot give you a true idea of how lovely the riad really is. Beautifully designed with fab attention to detail. With just 6 rooms and friendly staff you feel like you are staying with friends who have a fab house in Morocco!
All the staff are great - Pauline and Jallel are excellent hosts but the real legend has to be Fauzi - stay and you will find out why!
iPods and Moroccan cellphones (with managers numbers pre-loaded in case you get lost!) in the bedroom prove how well thought out the whole place is. So lovely to listen to chill out tunes around the hotel and in your room.
We would definitely recommend it to all our friends.
The most amazing honeymoon!
Where do I start...I booked this hotel for our honeymoon after seeing the amazing reviews on Trips Advisor and we were not disappointed. In fact the hotel went above and beyond our expectations!
We arrived to a very warm welcome from Pauline and the other staff, and the most stunning room I have ever seen! Rose petals on the bed, an iPod filled with romantic music, fresh flowers and then champagne on the terrace, what a start!
But nothing was ever too much trouble at the Maison MK and the staff could not have been more polite or friendly, accommodating us in everyway. Even when my poor husband got sick with a stomach bug, from eating food from a stall in the main square (big mistake!), they did everything they could to make him as comfortable as possible. Jallel, the manager, even took him to a medical centre in the early hours of the morning when he was hit pretty hard with the bug! He even prepared food for him, and myself, off the menu, while we were stuck in the room for a few days, and made sure to check on us regularly to ask if we needed anything else. Luckily this little event did not spoil the rest of our stay, and this was absolutely down to how Jallel, Pauline and the other staff looked after us.
As for the hotel itself, the design of the rooms and communal areas are stunning. The roof terrace was so quiet it was hard to believe that a few feet down in the medina there was all the hustle and bustle of Marrakech below us. Which is another thing, the location is perfect and only about a 5 minute walk to the main square. Another plus point was that the food was amazing! The best we had in Morocco in fact! The set menu of 7 courses was out of this world and extremely reasonably priced.
In conclusion, I really can't praise this hotel or the staff enough and can only tell you if you want somewhere extra special to stay, with beautiful surroundings, attentive staff and stunning food, then go to the Maison MK, you won't be dissapointed.
Fantastic RIAD - Medina Chaos !
We stayed in the MaisonMK for 3 nights at the begining of May - like most travellers to Marrakech we were venturing into the unknown. Once we entered the MaisonMK following a pretty hectic journey through the Medina, we were absolutley amazed by the stunning architecture and finishings of the building - the suite we had (room 2) was fantastic - romantic lighting, air con, mini bar, ipod sound system, candle-lit bathroom - I could go on.... the split level roof terrace is, again, fantastic - great for sunbathing and has the best sun loungers I have ever experienced .... the food is great and the dishes are almost prepared to your taste and order ..... there is also a great 'cinema' room which boasts an enourmous projector with a host of DVD's to choose from-this room is small but can be your 'own' mini cinema - great idea!
Jallal, the manager, is quite frankly, the best! He went out of his way to help us which enabled us to get the most out of our stay - as are the rest of the staff and Pauline.
If you're going to Marrakech, don't stay anywhere else, but don't stay longer than 3 nights - the Medina gets somewhat tiresome, and irritating, and I would recommmend travelling to the Atlas Mountains to further your stay.
Small but perfectly formed!
Having read the web-blog and researched the hotel, we booked up for a 4-day trip for our anniversary. It was only afterwards that I checked the reviews. Uniformedly positive is sometimes a little scary, but Maison MK actually deserves its plaudits.
We were unusual apparently, because we were not only the first to actually use the gym (only a cycle and weights at the moment, but may well be improved), but also we used the plunge pool to cool off; the pool is in the atrium, the terrace two floors up, but with building restrictions it does make sense!
Breakfasting on the terrace with cockerels crowing, the muezzin calling and the sun shining was lovely; the staff could not have been more polite, friendly and helpful and Jallel and Pauline were brilliant at offering good suggestions for eating out. We also had a special meal - cooked by Jallel - in the private dining area, which was excellent.
If you can, choose the Master Suite, which is fabulous - but the other rooms are lovely and the curved polished plasterwork is beautiful - it makes the whole place feel organic and friendly - and the lighting is brilliant.
Fantastic retreat in a frantic city!
We spend three nights at the Maison MK at the beginning of May and it was a very pleasant stay! Despite the delay we were picked up at the airport, which was extremly helpful, because finding the Maison MK as a first-time-visitor to Marrakech would be nearly impossible. The Maison MK was only opened in March therefore everything is brand new and in perfect condition and furnished with the caring for details. Situated in five minutes walking distance to the big square it is the perfect starting point for exploring the lively Marrakech. The staff was always very nice and helpful and I am sure that in the meantime the service at breakfast and the breakfast itself is perfect ;-)
If you have some free time and if you are not in the mood for running around in the blistering heat of Marrakech try a SPA treatment – the prices are reasonable for European standards and the rooms are nicely cooled.
PS: … and if we come back the next time the Maison MK will have bigger SPA facilities and also a Hamam!
magical maison mk
My friend and I stayed at Maison MK for one week in May. Originally we's only intended to stay for 3 nights but we loved it so much we ditched all other plans and stayed on.
The location couldn't be better, really close to all the action but very quiet and peaceful inside the riad door.
The riad itself is very special, with attention paid to every detail - it's stylish and top quality and the staff really couldn't be better.
Any tiny reservations we had had about two single girls holidaying in Marrakech were completely dispelled and Maison MK is the perfect spot for singles, couples - in fact everyone.
The only shame about raving on about this place so much is that others will find it and booking next time might not be quite as easy!
Maison MK - The perfect base from which to see Marrakech
We selected Maison MK as the base from which we wanted to explore Marrakech as the website portrayed a beautiful, traditional looking Riad with the clear luxury element.
We were not dissapointed when we arrived. After a short taxi ride from the airport (15 minutes max) and a short walk we arrived at Maison MK, the door of which leads out onto the path which takes you into the Medina (Marrakech square).
When inside we immediately realised we had made the correct decision, the foyer opening up before us to reveal a beautiful bulb shaped swimming pool with rooms off either side containing massage rooms, a gym, a private dining room and a simple, relaxing area with traditional Morrocan cushions.
Standing in front of the pool and looking up we realised where the rays of sun were coming from as the whole Riad was open from top to bottom, allowing both sun and breezes to enter the Riad down the centre of the building past the long colourful drapes that were hanging from the roof terrace railings.
We were shown up to our room (the Master Suite) by one of the very friendly staff members and were stunned to find such a sizeable room, with a very high ceiling and the continuing stylish design we had seen downstairs.
A wonderful kingsize bed mounted on a smooth stone base with a tall smooth stone headboard greeted us, with petals sprinkled on the Moroccan bed linen.
Beyond the bed was a curving cushioned area next to a floor to ceiling candle lit alcove which was joined on to the half-height bathroom wall.
Pulling back a curtain adjacent to the bed we revealed the bathroom. An inticing, softly lit, open topped wet room with a large oval bath built into a raised, smooth stone platform with an overhead shower.
The stand alone sink was again mounted on a smooth stone shelf unit housing the towels and hair dryer and the custom Maison MK bathrobes were hanging on the wall beside us.
After marvelling at the bedroom, we were led up to the top level where we enoyed fresh orange juice and explored the sun soaked roof terrace.
As you step on the slightly lower level of the terrace, spaced out in front of you either side of the waterfall surrounded fireplace were sun loungers, a perfectly shaded canopy covered corner area with Morrocan cushions and pillows (for those who like a break from the mid afternoon heat), a private corner shower and the stylish rails over which you can see right down through the Riad into the swimming pool.
Behind you are steps up to the next level of the roof terrace which houses the large cushioned seating area where we had our breakfast every morning (coffee, pancakes, Moroccan breads, yoghurt, fruit melee and scrambled eggs) under two large parasols.
Also on this level are the barbeque, raised marble table with stools and a further raised level with a sunken fire pit.
Once we had finshed exploring the Riad, we sat beside the pool on the ground floor and had lunch with one of the managers, a mix of chicken skewers, fresh tomatoes, avocado, red onion and a yoghurt and mint dipping sauce, all of which was delicious.
The staff were quick to show us maps of the area and to let us know of attractions nearby that may interest us and were very helpful and courtious.
Overall, a fantastic choice of accomodation, a brilliant experience and a place we will never forget.
