More about Riad Al Massarah

Wonderful hospitality

by TripAdvisor Member Oz_7

Michel and Michael were the most wonderful hosts during our recent stay at Riad Al Massarah. Michel couldn't have been kinder to us or more helpful in arranging tours to the coast and the Atlas Mountains, booking restaurants etc.The Riad is a gorgeous place to stay in the medina. Recommended to anyone who wishes to enjoy the colour and excitement of Marrakesh.

A Great Place With Wonderful People. ATrue Haven

My friend and I went to Marrakech for a long weekend from 22 - 25th June. The standard of the Riad is excellent and Michael and his staff are just amazing.
The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful and Michael (one of the owners) adds the personal touch to your stay. He will book taxis and restaurants for you, recommend things to do while you are there and will spend time talking with you. He can also arrange for you to stay a couple of nights near the sea, if that is what you would like to do.
The accommodations cannot be faulted in any way. The breakfast is also excellent -3 courses of yumminess.
As soon as you enter the Riad, you are embraced by a calm, serene atmosphere, with music playing softly in the background and after a tough week at work, it was just what the doctor ordered. The Riad is simply great - i can't gush enough.

Superb in every way!

by TripAdvisor Member IanWriter

I visited Al Massarah in July 2007 with my son and his friend, and we had a delightful few days there. I have stayed in several riads in Marrakech and this one is really first class in every way. The riad is recently renovated in an impeccably tasteful style, creating a cool and tranquil retreat from the bustle of the medina. Rooms are comfortable with elegant bathrooms -- and the showers have excellent water pressure, something that cannot be taken for granted in many riads. Michael was a wonderful host, always ready to help with the tiniest detail of our stay in the riad and our visit to the city. He went out of his way to show us nooks and crannies of the medina and was a fount of information on Moroccan culture. The staff is well trained and always polite and solicitous of our needs. Breakfast was waiting whenever we rose (and the yoghurt deseves a special commendation!). An added bonus for travellers with laptops is that the riad offers a wireless connection. I didnt have my laptop with me but Michael made a computer available anyway. This is a handsome riad, well situated and professionally run. Every reviewer here seems to give Al Massarah 5 stars , and with good reason.

Fantastic Friendly Riad

by TripAdvisor Member drewjo10

My Wife and I have have just returned from one of the best weekends we have ever had at the Al Massarah, Michael, the owner, went so far out of his way to make our stay relaxing, informative and enjoyable. He has done an amazing restoration job on the Riad which is now a tranquil retreat finished to the highest standard. The staff are so friendly and cannot do too much for you. Michael even took the time to personally guide us through the souk and show us the sites as well as booking us resturants and offering advice and ideas. The meal on the 1st night at the Riad was superb as are the breakfasts we loved the yoghurt. There is a plunge pool which is at just the right tempreture after you return from the heat of the city. Our bedroom was beautifully done as is the whole riad. We could not recommend a stay here more highly and we are sure you will enjoy Michaels personal touch, his attention to detail and his wish that as guests you have to most enjoyable stay possible.

What a fabulous experience!

by TripAdvisor Member collarsGuildford

This was our first trip to Morocco and indeed Marrakech and we had been advised by friends what to expect from the city but we had no idea what to expect from the hotel we had booked - Riad Almassarah. The city surpassed its expectations and was even more exciting than we expected but the main surprise of the holiday was the hotel. What a fabulous experience!!! Such a tranquil heaven after the hussle and bustle of the city streets and squares. When you walk through the front door you enter into a peaceful tranquil environment that is stylishly furnished and decorated in cool tones. The rooms are superb, beautifully presented with excellent ensuite facilities. The communal patio area has a plunge pool which is so welcome after the heat of the day and the lounge and dining rooms offer comfortable living. There is a superb roof terrace with relaxing sun beds and parasols where drinks and/or meals are served if ouside dining is a must. The owners Michael and Michel are superb hosts and go out of their way to make you feel relaxed and provide as much help as is needed in information about the city, trips and excursions, restaurants and dining and places of interest. Lunch and evening meals are available at the Riad and we experienced some outstanding cuisine with our evening meal on arrival and lunch on our first day. The breakfasts are excellent too.
We would throughly recommend a stay at the Riad Almassarah.

Entering a dreamworld!

by TripAdvisor Member roquefort

Coming to this riad was truly like entering a dreamworld. We arrived late at night under a clear star-filled sky and the first impression was was quite magical - the inner courtyard so beautifully lit.

Michael and Michel gave us a wonderfully warm welcome and we knew straight away that we would be well looked after. The rooms are sumptuously luxurious - the house has only recently been renovated and the decor, fixtures and fittings are all of the highest standards. The breakfasts too were something special and set us up perfectly for the day.

The house is ideally located for visiting the city and Michael and Michel were happy to advise us about places to go both in and out of Marrakech.

In short a wonderful place to stay and I recommend it heartily to anyone wanting a magical trip to Marrakech.

Amazing home in Marrakech

by TripAdvisor Member GplusP

Riad Al Massarah is a very special place. Not a hotel but a home, owned by Michael and Michel, in the heart of Marrakesh Medina. It is elegant and stylish. You feel totally at ease while well attended by a resident host and their diligent staff. The courtyard and plunge pool are perfect for lounging around during the day and for a nigh-time feet-cooling after walking the milliards of souks. Hammam, with its henna scrubbing and massage, delivered by local ladies is a great attraction. There is a library with books on Moroccan art as well as a great selection of novels and guide books. The roof garden is a brilliant place for soaking up the atmosphere of Marrakesh at sunset whilst sipping Moroccan rosé. But candlelit at night the place is at its most charming, exuding charm and peace. The smells and sounds of this vibrant city are kept at a distance ,mingling with the scents of flowers in the courtyard. At dawn the call for prayer from surrounding mosques is drowned by one particularly persistent bird, determined to show off the power of his voice. Fortunately he does not have enough stamina so after a short while the place goes back to its tranquillity. This is a perfect place to chill, 4 hours away from London.

Treat yourself to the Riad Al Massarah

by TripAdvisor Member lucylondonlondon

I have never written a web based review on any hotel I have stayed in before, however was sufficiently inspired by the Riad Al Massarah to do so for the first time. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here. It was very beautiful, stylish and subtle, and a real sanctuary from the excitement of Marrakech. Michael was a truly faultless host, and his staff all friendly, helpful, efficient and discreet. We had a really fantastic time in Marrakech, and a huge part of that is attributable to the charm and sincererity of Michael, his excellent advice, and the simply stunning Riad Al Massarah. Treat yourself!

Amazing oasis of calm

by TripAdvisor Member Liskate

There’s not much to add to all the fabulous reviews of Riad Al Massarah. We had a crazy 3 days in Marrakech where the Riad Al Massarah was really a home. All the staff were polite, discreet and friendly, the rooms spotless, beautiful, atmospheric and yes, a wee bit open-plan (but please don’t let this put you off!). Our visit to Marrakech was undoubtedly a more magical experience because of this relaxing Riad and its owner, Michael, whose advice and recommendations were absolutely ‘spot on’ for us.

The location of the riad is close to a chaotic ‘locals’ shopping street and at first perhaps can be overwhelming – just take a deep breath and enjoy the experience, it soon becomes normal! If you choose Riad Al Massarah your trip will be richer for it. Have fun.

A True Oasis

by TripAdvisor Member lexaworld

I've never written an online review for a hotel before, but am compelled to do so for the Riad al Massarah because it was a truly inimitable experience. As others have already written here, the hotel is beautifully restored and decorated. What's most amazing about the aesthetics of this hotel is that they both complement and soothe the Marrakesh that you encounter outside the Riad walls. It is truly an oasis in the best sense of the word. The design is clearly Moroccan, but in no way does it feel or look like "McMoroccan" style. But, as I understand it, there are many beautifully decorated riads in Marrakesh. What really makes al Massarah stand out is the care of Micheal, one of the owners (unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to meet the other owner, Michel). Micheal was an unbelievable host who welcomed us with genuine care and delicious food, who shared stories and provided insight into Moroccan culture, and who tirelessly guided us around the city. We have never experienced such hospitality and would recommend the Riad al Massarah without reservation. You won't be disappointed!
