My hotels new year eve expensive menu - is it reasonable?

by sb4002

The hotel I'm staying at, which is reasonably priced and looks lovely has sent me a new years eve menu at 80 euro's a head(with no mention of wine). This seems really steep to me, especially as we have 3 kids to cover too! (and the two eldest are 14 and 16 so they will easily eat adult sizes).
Can anyone advise is this considered expensive? Could we eat anywhere else?
Thanks in advance.

RE: My hotels new year eve expensive menu - is it reasonable?

by doofus

Wow- that does sound expensive for per head. What exactly is included in all that? I have only just got back from Marrakesh. In the Riad where we stayed they told us it was fully booked for Xmas and New Year. The owner has contacted all his guests to advise them to book into restauants etc NOW.

I think I remember him saying that 40euros was about the going rate. Maybe you could get the website of restaurants and try to book. Where are you staying in Marrakesh? There are many places that have entertainment as well.

Hopefully some locals on this site will help. Problem is some of the people that reply to this site are touts etc so they can be biased.

If you have a Marrakesh guide there are web sites listed. Good luck.

Travel Tips for Marrakesh

Packing List

by pjallittle

As always, remember the mosques. Ladies, bring along a sarong, wrap, coverup garment, whatever you call it. In countries like this, a lot of normal wear is considered provocative, and actually, longer skirts and longer sleeves is a very good sun protection.

I'm sure you're convinced.
Light summer wear is best anywhere in Africa unless you intend to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Just the bare essentials, you aren't stepping off the end of the earth. Be sure that you know what kind of medications you normally take just in case something happens and they get left behind in a hotel room. Chances are, you will be able to purchase most prescription medications over the counter.
In the heat of the day, watch for this fellow, or many like him. They are water carriers who will dispense water to you if you did not bring your own bottle along.

Short Hike in the Atlas Mountains

by Iolarwood

If you fancy a short active break out of Marrakech, a trip up the Ourika Valley to Setti Fatma with a mountain hike from the village up to the cascades above is very enjoyable and can easily be managed in a day trip.
We travelled up by Grand Taxi and hired a guide - and got stung on both, I think.
From later enquiries, I'd say you can get a taxi from Bab Rob (appropriate name!) outside Marrakech to Setti Fatma and the return trip 4 hours later for around 450 dirhams for up to 4 people (the locals pay 20 dirhams oneway and travel 6 to a taxi). A guide for 4 hours for around 200 dirhams. In both cases, you'll have to argue the price down to this.

Berber Horse Riding Show - Chez Ali

by Mikebb

After the dinner and entertainment we moved from the Dining Tent to the outdoor arena for the highlight of the evening, the Berber Horsemen in traditional dress displaying their superb horsemanship. There were a group of 10 or more horsemen who entertained us for 20 minutes with various riding exhibits.

Undoubtably the highlight of the evening was the Berber charge with horses at full gallop as they came towards the crowd; only metres from the fence firing their rifles into the air, with instant shock to their guests. The crowd loved the show and were rewarded with a repeat charge.

The horsemen were supported by various other entertainers, including a Belly Dancer, Stunt Riders, Musicians, Camel Rides for children and adults and the Fireworks finale.

MARRAKECH

May, 2004:

It was a dream come true to visit Africa. Marrakech is the best city in Morocco. It's soil is pinkish-coffee coloured so every building is like that. The days spent in Marrakech was full of excitment. Indeed i learnt a lot about North African culture from this trip.
