La Palmeraie
by MM212
La Palmeraie is a large oasis of palm tree groves just outside Marrakech. The palm trees were planted in the early years after the founding of the city, and an irrigation system was devised to keep water flowing and the palm trees green. Today, la Palmeraie is quite scenic and contains many palaces and hotels as well as golf courses. Many people choose to stay at a hotel in la Palmeraie when visiting Marrakech.
Address for CTM bus stations in Marrakech
by earthflyer
Here are the address for CTM bus stations in Marrakech, Please note the CTM bus station on Rue Abou Baker Seddik, Marrakech is the new Terminal for all CTM buses in and out of Marrakech. This place opened in 2007. I have used this place a couple of times and it is a proper bus station but only for CTM buses nobody else.
Lonely Planet have yet to put it in there new book, which is a real shame.
CTM still have a bay in The Main bus station on Bab Doukala but is very conjested.
The office on Zerktouni street is just a pick up point and a courier service where you can buy tickets, but someone has said it is closed now. Which would make sense because the new terminal is big enough to deal it.

The main square
by Venturingnow
The main square of Marrakech is a great place to do many things. The funnest thing is walking around to all the performers and watching them work. Whether it be the old palm reader, the snake charmer, the children boxing, or the story teller, they're all fun. But the best thing to do is buy orange juice. There's a guy, in stall 34 of 60, that really sells the good stuff. A tall glass retails for about 10 cents, every third glass gets a 1/2 glass free, it's great.
Tiskiwin Museum
by suvanki
An example of one of the decorative windows in this house / museum.
A good example of Islamic art in the stucco surroundings. As you can see, the design is geometric with the the pattern being repeated in symetrical style.
Below is a picture of the decorative doorway and courtyard. I'm not sure if the man in the doorway is the owner of the museum or not.
Ourika Valley and the Djemaa el Fna
by PavlH
No visit to Marrakesh would be complete without a stroll around the Djemaa el Fna at dusk - so many interesting sights and sounds with the orange sellers competing to sell the best tasting freshly squeezed orange juice and the story tellers and snake charmers on the inside.
The Ourika Vally is quite a spectacular sight - we drove into the middle and stopped for a while - the view was amazing and the only sound was that of a shepherd calling to his flock in the distance - worth a visit.
Hotels....
The first time in Marrakesh I stayed in La Mamounia - lovely Art Deco Hotel with fabulous grounds - just a shame about the poor service.
The Second time we stayed in the Sheraton - very much what you would expect from a Sheraton - everything available and good service. The staff were great - they booked our restaurants for us and made sure we had a great time.
The last time we stayed in the Maison Arabe - fantastic! just a few paces from the Djemaa el Fna (well about half a kilometer or so..) The staff were friendly, the pool area was a car ride away but is set amongst tended gardens, the restaurant was fine and the room was great - we even had our own courtyard. Guess where we will stay next time:-)
