More about Riad Chergui
A peaceful haven in busy Marrakech!!
We have just returned from a week long stay at Riad Chergui and can honestly say it was absolutely perfect!! - We wanted a relaxing base from which to enjoy all that Marrakech has to offer and the Riad Chergui far exceeded our expectations. We paid extra to be met at the airport - which I would definitely recommend - Emmanuelle (the owner) met us from the taxi and guided us through the winding medina alley to the riad's front door. Inside, the riad looks exactly as it does on their website - so if you are looking for simple, understated luxury then Riad Chergui is for you!! - Our room was spacious, with air conditioning and was decorated in traditional Moroccan style. It also had a safe, so we had peace of mind knowing our valuables were secure. The pool is a large size - unusual among riads - and perfect for us as it was very hot!! We were given a map by Emmanuelle when we arrived and some handy directions to give to taxi drivers if we got lost. The riad is in a good location with the souks only 5 minutes away on foot. All the staff were really friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Riad Chergui is a peaceful haven in busy Marrakech - We can't wait to go back!!

The place to be in Marrakech
The Riad Chergui is a very nice place to stay in. After a day bargaining in the souk, the swiming pool will help you cool down. The staff was very efficient and very friendly. The rooms where comfy and well designed. The balcony offers you a fantastic view.
Emmanuelle has created an oasis of calm and tranquility in the heart of the medina.
Riad chergui is beautifully decorated to a high standard and everything has been well thought through from the dramatic chandelier to the detailed brass door handles.
The pool was an unexpected highlight surrounded by palm and banana trees, a bougainvellea clad wall (and a well stocked bar), it is deep and large enough to dive and swim in.
Perfect for childrens and adults after the bustle of the city!!! We were very well looked after by all the friendly staff and were made very welcome from the moment we stepped through the door.
We can't wait to come back.

Great place to say in Marrakech
Riad Chergui is located within 10-15 minutes walk of Jemma el Fna depending upon whether you want to walk via the souks or take the quick route. There is also a taxi rank nearby. So it is very conveniently located and only 10 minutes by cab from the airport. It has a lovely pool (rare in medina) around which breakfast is served. The Riad is beautifully designed and fitted out. Our room easily accommodated 2 extra beds for our kids. The en suite bathroom, air con, pool and super roof terrace made for a very relaxing stay – even with 40degree of dry heat outside. Emmanuelle and her father, who speak English, made us feel most welcome.
very unplesant stay, poor service, stay elsewhere
We arrived at Riad Chergui after a long trip from Fes. We arrived to broken a/c in our room. Not a major problem, however it was handled rather poorly. No apology was offered (they were more concerned with the problem for the following week when the riad was fully booked) and we had to switch rooms into a significantly smaller room with twin beds at the same rate. When we questioned this, Emanuelle got very defensive saying that the rooms were equal size, and that she knew this because she built the riad herself! The rest of the 18 hours we spent at the riad were very unplesant. She claimed not to understand much of what we were asking for (a bottle of water?) and was very combative with all of our (minor) requests. We requested a guide be arranged for the following morning, however, she never checked on the timing with us and just "guessed" a time...9am turned into 9:30am which turned into 10am, a very late and hot time to begin touring. Breakfast was serve yourself which was not the case in the 5 other riads we stayed at. Many of the baskets of food were empty and were clearly not being replaced. The jams were covered in bees (one bee was actually swimming in the jam), birds were pecking at the bread basket, and when we asked for more napkins this request was met with annoyance. We felt so uncomfortable that we switched riads for our last night in Morocco which was a huge inconvenience...not to mention, it was over 110 degrees. There are a million other riads in Marrakesh with far higher standards of service (check out my review of our new one). Spend your money elsewhere.
A cliché I know but "oasis of calm" is a perfect description
We had this riad recommended by a friend who stayed here last year and so contacted Emmanuelle directly via the contacts page on Riad Chergui’s own website. The reply was very prompt and we booked the room we wanted. I would definitely recommend that you also book the taxi transfers as these are reasonably priced and the taxi driver had a big and comfy 4x4. Emmanuelle met the taxi and showed us to the riad which to be honest we would never have found by ourselves. The location of the riad is perfect as we really felt in the heart of the medina and all the local taxi drivers knew the Dar el-Bacha square just by it. (We took the petits taxis everywhere as they are so cheap and it was so hot during our visit). Throughout our stay we felt very well looked-after. For example, mint tea and pastries when we arrived and Emmanuelle taking the time to make sure we had our bearings on the map she provided. In addition, Emmanuelle booked us a restaurant (Al Fassia, absolutely delicious tagines!) our first evening and showed us how to get there. We also took advantage of the massage, which was very reasonably priced. The riad is beautiful with gorgeous décor, the photos on this site don’t lie, and it is absolutely spotless. There is plenty of space for the guests to relax and the staff are so friendly and smiley. We absolutely loved our stay and would recommend to anybody that they stay here.
A welcome retreat from the hustle and bustke of Marrakesh!
A beautiful riad that is most welcome when you need a retreat from the hustle and bustle of this at times manic city. The staff are all very friendly and accomodating and they always tried to help us in anyway they could.
The French owner, Emanuel, speaks fluent English and ensures that the riad maintains high western standards. Emanuel is very knowledgable about where to go, eat and how much you should pay for things so ask as many questions as you want!
Unlike many other riads there was a swimming pool in one of the courtyards as well as a fantastic sun terrace on the roof to get a tan. The rooms are cleaned daily and are excatly the same as the pictures on the website. Breakfast is a treat at Riad Chergui as you get freshly squeezed orange juice and a choice of pancakes, cakes, pastries, omlettes and yoghurts (the chocolate pancakes are lovely!).
We have travelled to a number of places and normally arrange transport ourselves but would highly recommend the airport transfer arranged by Emanuel as it was good value and hassle free.
If you are young or enjoy good food i would recommend pacha as the food was amazing (a meal for two with alcohol will cost about £80-£100) and service was good. If you do enjoy good food i would recommend you research before you go and be prepared to pre book a table the day before you would like to eat there to avoid disappointment.
Overall a beautiful riad in an amazing city - highly recommended!
oasis of calm in the madness of Marrakech
We arrived at Riad Chergui by taxi arranged with Emanuelle by email prior to our arrival. Even though we were slightly delayed the taxi driver was waiting for us and waited a little longer whilst we got some currency changed. Emanuelle has an arrangement with this taxi company and we paid her in our final bill rather than the driver. When we arrived at end of the road near the Riad, Emanuelle was there to greet us and helped us with our luggage and showed us down the little side streets to the Riad itself. Our room wasn't quite ready (it was 11.30am so not a problem) so whilst we waited she brought us mint tea and Moroccan pastries. We were shown then around the Riad by Emanuelle and then to our room, which thankfully had air con, couldn't have slept without it as it was 42 degrees when we arrived, a temperature that remained constant throughout our stay. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms I believe, room 8 overlooking the pool. It was just as advertised through Maroc Emotions, who we booked through. Farily small double room with a lovely bathroom, but just what we had booked. Emanuelle ensured we had fresh bottled water in the room, showed us how to work the air con and the safe and then gave us a map of Marrakech and showed us where we were. (But believe me you will get lost in Marrakech! It's part of the experience! ;-)). There was also a small gym on site, with cross trainer and hand weights and also massages and beauty treatments were available by prior booking. I didn't try any of these, but there was a price list in the room.
The continental breakfast was served from 8am each morning and was self service but that was fine. It is served by the pool. The coffee was great! We were offered omelettes on the first morning by Emanuelle and again on our last morning, but not on the ones in between (we stayed 5 nights), however, I am sure if we had asked we could have got some.
There is a large roof terrace with loungers and also shaded beds to lounge out of the sun, whilst we were there we had the terrace to ourselves. By the pool there ar 4 sun loungers in the shade and various seating. We spent most afternoons by the pool out of the heat of the sun, the pool was great for keeping cool and a lot of the time there was only the two of us there.
Anything we asked for in terms of drinks and snacks by the pool was not a problem and we had two evening meals in the Riad, which we asked for earlier in the day. The food was traditional Moroccan, lamb tagine etc.
The staff at the Riad were all really pleasant and always greeted us. They worked hard keeping the Riad clean, sweeping up the petals by the pool and scrubbing the tiles.
All in all, we had a great time in Marrakech and I can honestly say that the Riad made our stay.
We went on to stay in Essaouri for 5 days at Dar L'Oussi, so take a look at my review for there also.
Great Venue and Service
We were a group of 6 with different needs that the Riad fully met. The service was very good with a special mention of Barber the bar man who was always helpful and ready with a smile.
Emmanuelle the owner has a beautiful Riad, the pool is not very big but it gets plenty of sun and the whole place is a calm oasis within the old medina.
Highly recommend and I would go back.
