Nice stay

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 7, 2008

We took a cab from the airport which cost 160 dirhams although wished we'd booked through the hotel which would have been cheaper. It takes about 15 mins by car.

The riad is located up a narrow alleyway in the medina but there's nothing threatening about it at all and there's always people milling about even late at night. It's about a 10 minute walk to Djemaa el-Fna but there are a few main roads you need to cross. I expected it to be more difficult to find but after you've done it once it's quite simple. It's quite out of the way but nicer and more quiet than being right in the centre of the medina.

The riad itself is quite peaceful compared to the outside world and it was at times a relief to get back there. The little open courtyard is beautiful. The rooms are quite small but nicely decorated, each with their own toilet which is separated from the room by curtains. There are no windows to the outside, instead they overlook the courtyard. This means it can be quite noisey at times when people are down there chatting at reception or on the terrace. You may also be woken by the morning prayer call at 4ish but I hardly noticed it most days.

Breakfast is served on the roof terrace (not a great view) which consists of tea/coffee, fresh orange and some bread, a small fried pancake type thing and a slice of cake, with jam or butter. It wasn't brilliant but there are plenty of places in the medina to fill up.

Staff are friendly and provide you with a map and directions when you first arrive which is most welcomed.

Overall the stay here was nice and good value for money

Unique Quality: The detail inside the riad and the helpful staff

Directions: A narrow alley on the right side of Sidi Mimoun leads to the riad
