English riad Marrakech

What a fantastic place...we stayed here for a week and absolutely loved it.

Wonderful host and staff, the owner organised everything for us - restaurants, day trips, hammams, golf. Fatima prepared us several amazing dinners - the quail tagine with apricots and the beef tagine with prunes and almonds are out of this world!

The riad itself is gorgeous, with arches and columns, very clean and tastefully decorated. Was a wonderful escape from the mad bustle of the medina. We stayed in the room on the terrace, small, but cosy and snug, and with a big comfortable bed that was divine. The roof terrace was precious, hot and sunny, with stunning views of the Atlas mountains.

More about Riad Dar Zaman

A Perfect Place To Stay

by TripAdvisor Member 2glassesofwine

Dar Zaman surpassed all expectations. After the hustle and bustle of the medina, tranquility lies behind the front door. The courtyard and the surrounding rooms are all beautiful.

We had a fabulous dinner of Morrocan salads and lamb tagine cooked by Fatima, which was served in front of an open fire on a table strewn with rose petals. Our bedroom was lovely with a very comfortable bed and always lots of hot water for a shower.

Peter is the perfect host and very good company.

Would we recommend Dar Zaman? Absolutely!

A tranquil oasis...

by TripAdvisor Member buzznla

Where to begin? Upon our arrival at the airport in Marrakech, we were met by Peter's taxi service and were driven into the frenetic interior of the medina and escorted to the magical oasis that is Dar Zaman. It couldn't have been easier! The quiet and tranquility of the riad were in marked contrast to the bustling streets of the medina... A true "oasis"!

Peter is a delightful, helpful, and knowledgeable host. He guided us to great restaurants, great shopping, and "insider" places such as the neighborhood "hammam" . He also arranged dinner for us at the riad (prepared by his spectacular cook Fatima) which was one of the highlights of the trip.

Riad Dar Zaman was one of the most memorable and intimate hotel experiences that I've had anywhere in the world! Thanks Peter.
Sincerely, Bryan Cooper

A delightful gem!

by TripAdvisor Member PaprikaBromley

We booked five nights at the Dar Zaman after reading other TripAdvisor reviews - and we were not disappointed! Everything was just great from the moment we first contacted Peter by email to the time we left for home.

Peter arranged for a taxi to meet us at the airport and take us to Sidi Ben Slimane where he met us personally and guided us through the narrow streets. On arrival at Dar Zaman, we were welcomed with sweet mint tea and Moroccan pastries and Peter briefed us about the local interests and gave us an excellent map (which was very useful in helping us navigate Marrakech).

The Dar Zaman is a lovely riad which Peter (the English owner) has renovated to a very high standard while keeping its Moroccan charm. Our room (La Douiria) is the largest of the four rooms in the riad. It has a fireplace, double bed (very comfortable with clean and crisp cotton sheets), and the bathroom is well-appointed with a basin, toilet and shower. The other rooms in the riad (which we saw during our stay) are equally nice, although smaller, and all are finished to a good standard.

The public rooms consist of a dining room and two sitting rooms, one of which has a television with numerous satellite channels. The courtyard is very pretty and has a plunge pool, plants and visiting birds making it a peaceful place to relax after the hustle and bustle of the souks! If you are lucky, you will also smell Fatima's cooking - but to be sure, make certain you book one of her meals! We had the beef with prune tagine to celebrate my birthday and it was delicious.

Hassan served us breakfast each morning on the roof terrace. The food was lovely - fresh bread and pastries with jams or honey, homemade yoghurt, fresh orange juice and tea or coffee. On one morning, we also had omelette and on another we had homemade crepes. Hassan is a very helpful and charming young man who goes out of his way to make you feel at home. The roof terrace is a perfect place for breakfast, for sunbathing and for watching the sunset or just sitting after supper.

In summary, a great place to stay and one we thoroughly recommend. Staying at the Dar Zaman is like staying at a friend's house without having to worry what the friend is doing - you have your own front door key, your own bedroom and your own lounge. Book with confidence!

'Perfect' Little Hide away

by TripAdvisor Member willmott2202

After weaving your way through the tight streets you arrive at the Riad Dar Zaman, a perfect little hideway. We spent two nights here, the owner Peter could'nt of helped us more prior and during our stay. Fatima is brilliant espcially with her pastries and mint tea , We can't say anmore other than this Riad is highly recomended and as with everyone else's reviews Peter has a perfect hideaway within an amazing, crazy but brilliant city. Thanks again Ryan and Karen

Great Place Great Stay

by TripAdvisor Member Leonardis6

My wife and I have just returned from Marrakech having thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dar Zaman. This was our first time in Morroco and from the time we arrived we felt relaxed and at home.
The owner, Peter, met us at the Taxi drop off and guided us to the Riad and then gave us a useful and informative description of the City and how to get around. He also personnally marked up maps showing the best routes around and through the town. Whilst the Riad is 15 minutes walk from the square this is part of the charm - setting it within the more native area of the medina (less tourists!).
The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were very attentive, with a lovely breakfast served on the roof terrace. We had dinner once at the Riad and were both very pleased with our meal.
We would highly recommend this as a place to stay.

Peaceful, simple, stylish, clean, safe, just about perfect!!!

What can I say that has not already been said about this Riad? My wife and I stayed here in April 2008 on our honeymoon. It was a perfect setting in the crazy place that is Marrakech. Riad Dar Zaman is in the heart of the action, ten minutes from the big square and botanic gardens, five minutes from the museum of Marrakech and Koranic, schools all worth a look.

The Riad is perfect I only hope the photos I add do it justice. Meals are serve ether on the roof terrace, overlooking the Atlas Mountains or in the dinning room next to the peaceful courtyard garden. The food in this Riad is a must; Fatima’s cooking is fantastic and it is very reasonably priced (cook/housekeeper).

The host Peter takes great care to ensure all your needs are met. He is an excellent host, always at hand with information and help. He can arrange just about everything you need during your stay. I recommend that if you are planning any trips that you book them through Peter, the one thing I found strange in Morocco was the lack of tourist information places or at least ones you can trust.

This is a very small Riad, with only four rooms, so I recommend you book in advance. I don’t think it really matters what room you stay in, they all look great. I have added photos of our room. All rooms come with an on-suit, security safe, cupboard and very comfortable bed (wish I remembered to ask Peter what it was made of).

Don’t think there is much more that I can say, apart from stay here you will not be disappointed. Marrakech is a must see place, the atmosphere is like no other I have felt, and this Riad just adds to the experience.

Thanks Peter, Fatima and Hassan

Great Place to Stay

by TripAdvisor Member JesmondVale

We had such a great experience staying here. The rooms are all very different but equally charming. Even more important the beds are comfortable and there's lots of hot water.

Peter is an excellent host and very helpful. He arranged our trips out for us and the taxis all had seat belts. We were both tired when we arrived having had a hectic few weeks at work and the roof top is a great place to relax. We both felt that Peter ought to be running astronomy classes given the stars that can be seen at night.

Fatima is great cook and copes very well with vegetarians coming to stay

An excellent reception

by TripAdvisor Member SAlderson

After reading all the rave reviews I thought this must be a great place, and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Even before getting to Marrakech, host and proprietor Peter very helpfully booked us a taxi pickup from the airport, reserved a great restuarant for the 1st evening and helped us with preparations for our next port of call. When we arrived Peter not only met us at the taxi to walk us through the narrow streeets to the Riad but that evening walked us the 15minutes to the restaurant in case we should get lost!

As for the place itself: wonderful! Quiet, peaceful and altogether relaxing. The feeling of quality, the sober but elegant decor and Peter's personal attention made our stay very comfortable. My only regret? Staying only 1 night and not eating dinner there: if the breakfast is anything to go by it must be delicious!

Loved the Zaman

by TripAdvisor Member UKRob

I can't speak highly enough about the Riad, owner and staff.

From the moment I contacted Peter(the owner) he couldn't have done more to help.

Before our arrival he had arranged for a car to pick us up at the airport as well as sending us a menu of what Fatima could cook for us.

The car was on time and the meal was the best we tasted during our entire week, Fatima is an exceptional cook.

The Riad only has 4 rooms but each of them has been decorated with real care and attention to detail.

Breakfast is fresh each day and served on the roof terrace.

Peter was available to answer any questions, book trips and generally give advice and tips.
