Anyone stayed at Riad Agdese?

by dancinbythemoon

There doesn't seem to be any feedback on the internet. Anyone know if it's alright?

Re: Anyone stayed at Riad Agdese?

Certainly good points and definitely something to reflect on before booking. I wasn't sure if it was new, or maybe just too small for many people to have stayed there. I liked the pictures on it's website, and the price seemed good, so I figured I'd see if anyone had any good/bad experiences with it.

I know a lot of ryads in Marrakech and never heard of this before.
Have you tried their website if they ever have one ??
I could suggest another probably better than this one called ryad les souvenirs de Marrakech.Their rates are only 45 € per night with breakfast.
You may call them at this number:

Thank you - I will check them out

Ok, here are a few pointers!
1) There are so many hotels in Marrakech that plenty of people will never have heard of them
2) If you like the photos and have had good communication with the hotel - risk it
3) Riad Souvenir is not in the best location. Not very centrally located.

I don't think the pointers the 1st posting made are good at all. That attitude creates typical lemming effect.

Let me know your budget and i'll give you a few suggestions

I agree that there is a no reason to completely rule out something because it doesn't show up on travel review sites. We have a limited budget for our riad - under 100 E. a day for three people. We understand we won't be getting a palace for this price, but we are fine with a clean but basic room. Our problem is there are so many choices, and having never been there before it's a bit daunting. Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

Travel Tips for Marrakesh

Never pay the price they ask!

by CaduArle

If they are asking for 10 dirhams, never pay more than 3. Sometimes they ask 100 dirhams for something that you can by for 20! Just tell them it is too expensive that they are gonna low the price, insist and you'll get lower prices!

Pacha Marrakech,The Biggest Club in Africa!

by khalid_2 about Pacha Marrakech

Most international lounge lizards have come across a Pacha or two in their time (such as the new Pacha NYC), but who knew there are actually 25 Pachas scattered all over the globe.
One of the most sumptuous is Pacha Marrakech, barely a 2 years old itself but already attracting huge crowds to its sprawling barplex.
In addition to the de rigueur giant club cave and separate chill-out lounge, this Pacha also sports two restaurants and a patently absurd swimming pool (used mostly for its poolside area rather than actual dunking).
Note that the 50,000-watts of DJ power supposedly makes Pacha "the biggest sound in Africa."

Local cafe, close to Djemaa El Fna

by SWFC_Fan about Arsat El Bilk

Arsat El Bilk is a small cafe located within spitting distance of the famous Djemaa El Fna square.

It is located on Rue Moulay Ismail, across from Place de la Foucauld, and just a two minute walk from the bustling square.

What struck me about Arsat El Bilk was that, unlike the cafes and restaurants on the adjacent Rue Bab Agnaou, it was filled mainly with locals rather than tourists. Dozens of locals, predominantly men, were sat at shaded tables drinking their tea or coffee, reading their newspapers, playing cards, smoking cigarettes and watching the world pass them by.

It is a good spot for watching the masses of people walk by en route to/from the Djemaa El Fna and to watch as the mopeds, horses and carts, donkeys, taxis and cyclists weave in and out of them!

I asked the waiter for a menu, but they had none. I asked him if they served food, but he said not. I ordered a mint tea, which I had been craving all morning.

The waiter brought me a small teapot filled with mint leaves and three sugar cubes, enough for two glasses of mint tea. He also brought me a glass of mineral water to accompany it. Total cost: 10 Dhs (approx. 0.65 GBP).

A laid-back local cafe, just off Djemaa El Fna.

Exploring the souks

by toonsarah

North of the Djamaa el Fna lie the souks, a rabbit warren of lanes, many of them shaded with a lattice of wooden staves. They are both tourist attraction and local shopping centre, and the further you go from the square, diving into their depths, the more of the latter you will experience. We explored a small area on the western fringes on our first day but after that were limited to the lanes leading off the square because of my injury. These are said to be the least good, both in terms of character and the quality of the goods on sale, but we were happy with our limited explorations, and with the couple of items we bought here. I particularly love my bright pink shoulder bag :-)

Traditionally each area specialised in a certain craft – dying in one part, leather in another and pottery in a third. Although these distinctions have become muddled with time there is still a distinct dyers’ souk (which sadly we didn’t get to) and even elsewhere you will suddenly realise that every other shop in this row sells almost the same things. Even if you don’t want to buy anything at all you can spend many happy hours here, soaking up the atmosphere, looking at the colourful displays and taking photos.

And if you do want to shop, remember that haggling is as much a game as it is a transaction. Don’t take it too seriously, but do stick to what you feel is a reasonable price and don’t be lured into paying more than you think an item is worth. The usual advice is to start with an offer of about a third of that being asked and aim to finish at about the mid-way point.
