by Veruschka

Where can we hire a good guide. i read about this guide called Rachid B., maybe someone can give us his contact.

Re: guide

by hussaima

there loads of guides out there...

best to use is reputable english speaking companies who have their own registered guides, one company i've come across that does everything from villas apartments day trips quad/horse rides was (MARRAKECH-LOISIRS.COM) seem to be pretty upmarket professional company with a decent level of good service that you generally expect these day, i guess in Marrakech you dont get that!

Travel Tips for Marrakesh

Storks

by sue_stone

One thing I really loved about Marrakech were all the storks that we saw when we were exploring in the Kasbah district. They seemed to be nesting on every roof top in the area, even sitting on top of the Kasbah Mosque Minaret. The storks were always in pairs, standing tall, gazing out across the Kasbah, or doing a type of dance on their nests, beaks clacking together like a castanet.

We had lunch on the top floor of the a cafe, close to the Kasbah Mosque, and were sitting only 20 metres away from a fine feathered pair, who put on quite a performance for us.

Dates

by tini58de about Food and Drink

The dates that you can buy in Marrakesh are not from Marrakesh. The local dates tend to rot within a few days, so they sell dates from other parts of the country or from Algeria and Tunesia.

I did not mind at all, I just enjoyed the taste of all of them! Period!

Great place to watch people right on the square...

by Jawnuta about Caf├ęs

This cafe was right on Derma El Fna and it was few story high. You have a great view from the deck at front of the cafe as well as from the last front.
People go to this cafe for the views and photo opportunities ( you can zoom in from the top floor on anything you want for free), or because they don't know any better. There are also people who follow the lady with the stick, umbrella or any other object held high......yeah...

The service, food, and prices are tourist oriented. The place is easy to find and it will feed you if you are hungry.
I am not recommending this place, but I also don't think you shouldn't go there. It is what it is. If you will get the table in the first raw on the deck or the last floor, it will make out for touristy food and you will be satisfied. Oh, and we met few people who enjoyed the food......but yet.... we enjoyed the street vendors.....

The Saadian Tombs

by dabuwan

This large complex of funerary monuments and buildings has been reasonably well preserved. About 100 members of the Saadi sultans family are buried here. There are many finely and brightly decorated walls, in the typical old Moroccan style.

Ali Ben Youssef Medersa- The inner courtyard (2)

by suvanki

Surrounding the courtyard on the second storey are the windows of the students rooms. Again, these are equal distances apart and symetrical in their design.

The lacework stucco panels are sandwiched from above and below by cedar wood panels.

I tried very hard to get a picture without someone popping their head through the window, but as you can see I failed (ah well, he was quite attractive! :-) )

Beware when YOU'RE looking out of these windows as you're bound to feature in someones photo or video!
