Marrakesh to Merzouga by taxi

by richdownie

I need to get from Marrakesh to Merzouga in early december. Does anyone know a taxi driver or company that would make that drive? how much it would cost? how long it would take? I'm traveling in a group of four. does anyone have any other suggestions of how i could get there? Thanks.

These are grand taxis I have used. The least inexpensive is Mohamed G.taxi no:1323 mob:079275779.(he does the airport for 70dhs!)Mohamed G.taxi 1338 mob:062054969 and Aziz G.taxi 682 mob 061804534.Phone them and ask how much to Merzouga single/return ,how long will it take, etc

Otherwise the 4 of you rent a car and drive yourselves. Its a great circuit with some excellent stop offs along the way (Telouet, Ait Ben haddou, ouzrzazate and skoura, dades and todra gorges, risanni and merzouga and then back via zagora and draa valley to ouarzazate and marrakech) and you dont have to have a guide, its all easy enough travelling and driving. with pre-travel recommendations for where to stay and eat along the way eg via guidebooks and VT you can maximise your time and stops independently.

and then when you get to merzouga the auberges are signposted and easy enough to arrange one to stay at easily accessed from the main road and then the auberges organise whatever camel trips or excursions you want ie camels vs 4x4 out into the dunes/desert.

Travel Tips for Marrakesh

Ciel d’Afrique:Ballooning Marrakech

by khalid_2

Ciel d’Afrique"African Sky":
This small Marrakech-based company runs hot-air balloon flights almost anywhere in the country – at a price. The basic excursion involves leaving Marrakech very early for a flight over the Jebilet, the hills north of Marrakech. Four-wheel drive necessary to get to take-off point. Only an option from Oct to May when the balloon can ride on the thermals. Prices around 2,000dh for 1 hr. You can’t fly over Marrakech, but will get some good views of the surrounding area

Cool respite from heat of the city

by lorita

Les Jardins Majorelle is a few dollars cab ride from Marrakesh center and is a wonderful break from the hustle and craziness of the city.

The colors are amazing! (as you can see) The gardens are now owned by Yves St-Laurent and are occasionally closed when he is visiting, as he has built a private home within the gardens.

There is a moderate admission fee but I think well worth it!

Majorelle Gardens - a small, cool jewel

by travelmad478

The Majorelle Gardens are planted with all sorts of trees, flowers, and shrubs arranged in sections around pools, fountains, and small structures. This garden won't take too long to walk around, but it's worth a stop for two reasons: first, it's lovely, and second, there's an excellent small museum located inside. The museum has paintings and photographs by the garden's creator, Jacques Majorelle, as well as a really nice collection of art and handicrafts from around Morocco. The tribal pieces are especially interesting.

Marrakesh - exciting, jostling and...

by amyhenderson

"Marrakesh - lucky or unlucky??"

After we travelled in a rental car over the Sahara Plains from Casablanca, we were somewhat excited (and relieved) to arrive in Marrakesh. From driving along a faintly marked road through the Sahara with not another car or human in site (or anything at all, for that matter!) to smack-bang right in the middle of some major Marrakesh traffic, this was culture shock at its best! 3-legged dogs, beggar women, donkeys, carts, scooters and no apparent road rules proved to be an adrenaline pumping experience & a real test on my driving skills! No space for uncertainty here! WHAT a city this is. I have been to no other city like this, yet. Wow.
