We have had a great time at Riad Zolah. It is the perfect place to unwind after a hectic day exploring the many sights of busy Marrakech. The staff are extremely welcoming and make you feel very comfortable. We stayed in the smallest room, which is cosy and comfortable. Although we have only eaten here for one night of four, the food was great.

A truly special place
We stayed with Ismail and his team at Riad Zolah for only 4 nights and just wish we could have had more time with them. Our accommodation was exceptional, spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. The staff made our stay a real pleasure. There was every attention to detail and the service we recieved was the best we have encountered for years. We can't recommend Riad Zolah highly enough
Look no further!
We have just returned from a marvelous eight-day sojourn at Riad Zolah, which we chose largely on the basis of other reviews and photographs here. All of our expectations were exceeded.
Frankly, I have no idea how it compares with other riads, and don't much care. If I have occasion to return to Marrakech, I shall undoubtedly make a beeline for Riad Zolah.
A Home Away From Home
This was my second trip to Marrakesh and the second time in a luxury Riad. This time we also took my parents to show them the sights and sounds of the city; it is an ideal destination for a short break as it is only a four hour flight from London.
The Riad Zolah itself is literally a couple minutes walk from the main souks and approximately a five minute stroll from the La Place Jeema El Fna - perfect as the main purpose of our visit this time was to browse the souks and tantalise our tastebuds! The staff at the riad are more than happy to book day trips to the atlas mountains, etc but this was also supposed to be a relaxing break for my parents. As well as the great location, the decision to stay here was based on the information on their website and of course the reviews left on Trip Advisor (thanks to everyone who left a review about the Riad Zolah - they were very helpful and accurate).
As english speakers I also thought we would be able to communicate better at Riad Zolah as it is British owned - communicating was easier for us this time although we still tried out a few words in french and arabic with the staff. During our last visit we stayed at a french owned riad (Riad l’Orangeraie around the corner from Riad Zolah) which was equally lovely, centrally located and with friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately our french and arabic are so poor (to say the least) and we had to do a lot of gesticulating, etc
Raid Zolah is located in the medina about 10-15 minutes (4 miles) from Menara airport by taxi. (Incidentally, the airport is being updated/rebuilt so there are some extensive building works which meant we had to walk to and from the car parks with our luggage; there did not appear to be any luggage trolleys in the car park either). At certain times of the day, and in certain areas of the medina, cars are not permitted so we were met from the taxi by a very courteous raid staff member who led us through the hustle and bustle of the city through what initially seemed to be a maze of alleyways to an unassuming brown door... inside was an oasis of tranquillity . . .rose petals, cold towels, refreshing mint tea and a selection of morrocan pastries were laid out on a table in the cool courtyard and we were personally welcomed by Ismail, the very efficient and friendly manager who made us feel at home from the second we arrived. We also received welcome packs which included a map of Marrakesh and other useful information about restaurants, etc
This Riad has a cool, contemporary and uncluttered feel. Everything you need in an stylish understated way; there are lots of nooks and crannies and various seating areas scattered everywhere from the courtyard to the roof terrace. It is spotlessly clean and immaculately decorated. You feel you want to experience every little area. At sundown the riad takes on a whole new feel - lit candles and lanterns are everywhere and the whole place is bathed in a warm light - it becomes very cosy. We visited during the winter last time the smell of scented wood from the lit fires permeated the whole riad, it was heavenly.
Our rooms were spacious, bright, and simply decorated in the sumptuous colours and textures of somewhere exotic - the sort of thing that looks great there but just doesn’t work at home! The bathrooms were luxurious - big baths and fantastic showers with a large shower heads and what seemed to be a never ending supply of hot water; huge freshly-laundered towels hung everywhere as well as sweetly scented soaps and toiletries (and decent blow dryers).
The rooms were cleaned (and tidied) every day, and every night there was a turn down service so you’d return to the glow of lit candles and rose petals strewn across the large beds. The beds were actually very firm but we slept surprisingly well. We also had bottled water, nuts and dried fruit in the room - these were topped up daily and could be another reason we came back a couple pounds heavier!
This Riad has a lovely hammam and plunge pool with a counter current which we unfortunately did not get around to trying. They offer many other services as well and my mum had a massage which she said was extremely relaxing.
The roof terrace was a really good size with lots of comfy chairs and loungers and big umbrellas creating shaded areas; perfect for breakfast, dinner or just relaxing. I would have liked to have a slightly better view from the roof terrace of the atlas mountains, we could just make them out, but that is a tiny issue and certainly would not stop up staying at the Riad Zolah again.
Although the location, the decor and the cleanliness were excellent the best thing were the staff and the quality of service. There was nothing they could not do or provide, and everything was efficiently executed with a genuine smile. They were all so friendly and helpful. Before we arrived, Ismail and Fatima had booked golf and dinner exactly as requested and throughout our stay we were well looked after - spoilt really. I had also informed them prior to our visit that my Mum is a diabetic and they took excellent care of her needs and special requirements and never once forgot that she could not have sugar, etc. They even organised a large TV in the lounge area so we could watch the Rugby World Cup Final and Brazilian Grand Prix - way beyond the call of duty as we didn’t expect we would be able to watch it in a TV-free riad. For all of the movie addicts out there did have a portable dvd player and a choice of 50 films which they brought to your room if you requested it.
The kitchen staff also did a great job - every day a different breakfast with home made breads and preserves, crepes dripping with honey, yoghurts, fresh brewed coffee, etc. You simply had to tell them where and when you wanted to eat - near the pool, your room, the roof terrace, etc. We also had dinner at the riad twice, both times the food and service were excellent. One thing we did notice... even though we stipulated a specific time for dinner or breakfast we still seemed to need to go and say that we were actually ready to eat.
Marrakesh really is an experience for all five senses... like stepping back in time but with all the mod cons and Riad Zolah was the epitome of quality accommodation and staff. Thanks to everyone who works there Ismail, Omar, Aziz, Fatima and all the other staff we had another great time in Marrakesh. I highly recommend Riad Zolah if you are looking for a friendly luxury riad in a fantastic location.
A perfect Riad
I visited Marrakech in October with a female friend as an escape from a heavy few weeks in the UK. From the moment we arrived at the airport where the driver was waiting, the staff of Riad Zolah went out of there way to make us welcome and do everything to aid us in enjoying our stay.
The Riad is in a perfect location within The Medina, in the midst of The Souks down a rabbit warren of alleys which make you feel like your on the set of an Indiana Jones movie. It has been beautifully restored by Jeremy Smith and the decore is beautiful. In the evenings sitting on the roof terrace with a glass of wine listening to the city below is magical and the central location makes it so easy to wander out for dinner in the Medina.
We stayed in a first floor room overlooking the courtyard below. The fresh cut roses added absolute class along with a neverending supply of bottled water and mint tea for guests. I imagine that in the cooler winter months curling up in front of the log fires would be a perfect way to unwind after a day exploring.
In summary, I don't think you can do better than this Riad. Ismat, Fathma, and their staff are superb, Jeremy is the perfect host and the whole experience was faultless. Thanks!
Words can not describe it!
My fiance and I stayed at the Riad for 4 days and 3 nights in the 1st week of October and we absolutely LOVED it. Not only was the riad PERFECTLY situated to all the major tourist attractions but the pictures on the website were 100% accurate and the service was impeccable. The riad was always clean and peaceful. It is the perfect place for couples. The staff were always close enough to help whenever required but never got in our way and were very discreet and respectful. We were always greeted and served with a smile, whether we were asking for directions or for another complimentary pot of tea. We had our last dinner in the riad itself and it was the best meal we had had our entire stay. My fiance is a vegetarian and that caused no problems as the staff always made sure they told us the ingredients of the breakfast and let us chose our own dinner menu. We had rose petals on our bed every night and candles lit in our room. The complimentary laundry service was fantastic as well. There are SO MANY other great things about the riad, from the helpful email contact before our stay to the up to date digital movie library to the great massages that were organised for us, but there is not enough time to write down every beautiful detail. Riad Zolah is THE place to stay in Marrakech and I am sure you will love it as much as we did!
Fantastic from booking through to end of stay! A romantic & sensuous place to stay - the whole Riad was scented!! The staff were as impressive as the Riad. Nothing was too much trouble! Ismail & Fatima who run the Riad were both very accomodating & approachable. This Riad was luxurious & tranquil. The perfect escape from the bustling market. Perfectly located. Immaculately clean & comfortable. The staff were all immaculate too & perfectly dressed in morrocan style! Quite & gentle natured. This Riad is a reason for going back to Marrakech!
Fabulous Riad Zolah
My wife and I stayed at Riad Zolah for a long weekend mini-break in October 2007.
It's not that often that I stay at a hotel that really exceeds my expectations, but Riad Zolah managed to do so and I would happily recommend it to anybody.
First, the location could not have been better; right in the centre of the old town of Marrakesh, within 400 yards of the main square, immediately next to the souks and within easy walking distance of many of the main tourist sites. However, despite being right next to the hustle and bustle of the livliest part of the City, when my wife and I passed through the door of the hotel it was as we had entered a completely different world - it was so peaceful, quiet and calm that it was hard to believe we were so near to the streets outside.
The building itself is gorgeous - very elegently furnished in local style, and the guest rooms were as well equipped as many luxury hotels charging much higher rates.
The meals we had were all superb. We had breakfast at the hotel each morning, and dined there twice in the evening. We also went to one of the more expensive local restaurants during our stay, and there is no doubt that the dinners served by the hotel were far better (and a third of the price).
The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly; we really were made to feel that we were honoured guests or friends of the family; nothing was too much trouble for them. On our final day we had an early flight and needed a wake-up call at 4.30 am. Even at this time the hotel was able to provide us with a full breakfast and then an escort to take us to the waiting taxi.
Finally, at no time did we feel any pressure or expectation about tipping; however, as a result of the consistently superb service I (for once) was inclined to leave a generous tip, and actually wished I could have left more (we had used up most of our local currency by then!).
If you want an authentic Morocccan experience in a traditional Riad, then look no further.
Riad Zolah is a beautifully restored Riad in the heart of the Medina with impeccable service and hospitality from Ismail and his team.
I can't recommend it highly enough.
Lovely Riad, great location.
My fiance and I stayed at Riad Zolah for 4 nights the beginning of October and loved our stay there. The location is fantastic and easy to keep walking back to, especially to drop your shopping off or just have a relaxing mint tea before going back out again. The Riad itself is gorgeous, on our budget we booked Room 6 (the cheapest room!) which is on the top terrace - we got all the same facilities but just a much smaller room and a shower not a bath which was fine. The room is the only room on the top terrace and so it's great just to sit outside first thing and have your breakfast served outside your door. The staff are all so polite and friendly and even surprised my other half with a birthday cake as we returned back to the riad for a glass of wine which was so nice of them to do so. Wouldn't hesitate in returning back or recommending to friends and family.
