Marrakesh to Casablanca

by Unique82

How far is it between Marrakesh and Casablanca, and whats the best way to get there?

RE: Marrakesh to Casablanca

by Sambawalk

Trains to Casa runs every two odd hour, i.e. 7am, 9am, 11am, etc… It takes about 3hr 15 mins to get to Casa. Train is comfortable and convenient.

Travel Tips for Marrakesh

Riad Tamsa

by yoshimi

This private house is a restaurant, an art gallery and a small shop selling pricey Moroccan clothing and accessories. It’s really nice inside: the house itself has been restored and the owner chose to use modern furniture. The contrast between modern and old is really a surprise but has been done with good taste. The view from the terrace is terrific.
To find it… well you’ll have to ask! From Djemaa El Fna you have to take the “rue Riad Zitoun el Jedid” (this is one of the main street in the medina). Continue to walk on that street up to the “préfecture” of Marrakech (you can’t miss it: this official building is located on a small square used as a parking lot. Because it’s an official building, you’ll see Moroccan flags and police/military in front of it). When you get there you can ask someone to take you to the riad.
Entrance is free.

A view of the square

by tim07 about Cafe Glacier

Situated on the square, this cafe provides a relaxing escape from the heat of the afternoon & the crowds of the evening. Hot & cold drinks & snacks can be bought here, the view from the balcony is free as long as a purchase has been made. It also allows you to take some of the best aerial shots of Marrakesh. The menu includes various dishes from local food to a standard pizza.

Koutoubia

by Veroali

Koutoubia minaret, 77 m high, is the pearl of Marrakesh. The mosque was built a long long time ago, 1158, by a king Abd el-Mumem. It is said, that it took only one year to build it. It is the most beautiful minaret in Morocco, with one in Fes. It is seen from far distance and stands just next to Djemma el-Fna square. It is gently lit in the night.

Synagogue

by sue_stone

Hidden away in the heart of the Mellah is the oldest surviving synagogue in the city, dating back 500 years or so. It is still in use today by the couple of hundred Jews that still reside in the area.

It is not easy to find, but the local children will point it out to you. It is hidden behind a plain brown door on a narrow street. Go through the entry door, and first have a look in the pretty courtyard, which is decorated with blue and white tiles. The small fountain in the centre was empty when we visited, and was home to a sleeping turtle.

Then go to the decorative door to the right (when you enter the courtyard), and here you can view the room used for silent prayer. You can have a quick look inside, guided by the blind caretaker, who will take your hand and tell you (in French) about the history of the synagogue. Afterwards you will need to pay him 10 or 20 dirham each as a thank you.

At last!

by colin_bramso

Marrakech! It's one of those mysterious, exotic names that had stuck in my mind from when I was a child and first heard it. Since then it had been on the list of places I wanted to visit - and when we did go there last year I wasn't disappointed.

I've built a Travelogue to try to give a taste of this bustling exciting city. To go to it, just click on the tab below.
