Marrakesh-Portugal
by Zane_V
Hello
We want to go from Marrakesh to Lisabon. Can anyone tell how to get from Marrakesh to Portugal? Maybe is it possible to go by boat? We will be in Marrakesh after 2 weeks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much
Zane

if you're driving, drive from Marrakech to Tangier via casblanca and Rabat. This is a 6 hours drive on the motorway. if not take the night train from Marraekch to Tangier and from Tangier take the ferry to Algeciras and to Portugal

1-choice
marrakesh take the train to tangier,
tangier take the ferry-boat to tarifa,
from tarifa take the bus to sevilla,
from sevilla take the bus to lisbon.
from tarifa bus to sevilla/lisboa:
Combination Nº 1. (788 Kms.)
trip nº 1: TARIFA - SEVILLA
trip nº 2: SEVILLA E.A. LISBOA ARCO CEGO (PORTUGAL
2-choice (maybe better)
marrakesh take the train to tangier,
tangier take the ferry-boat to algeciras,
from algeciras take the bus to lisbon.

Travel Tips for Marrakesh
Bring yer Mac!!!
by Firestar24
I take my travel mac with me everywhere I go usually, but, to be honest, Agadir was so hot and we reasoned that it was bound to be even warmer in land.... When we first arrived in Marrakech it was throwing it down and bitterly cold - especially as we were only wearing jeans and t-shirts! So - Be Warned! - bring light rain gear when travelling to Marrakech as you never know when the weather may change!
Public buses
by tini58de
After a few days of walking around we decided to take a public bus to the outskirts of Marrakesh to visit a huge supermarket there. Our guide had told us that there was a bus going there from the vicinity of the main post building/McDonalds.
Ha, when we got there, we even saw something like a busstop, but there was no indication whether the bus went to our destination. We asked two young men, and both could tell us the bus number (which was 13) and one even walked us alround the corner to show us where the busstation for that bus was!
You pay the bus driver when entering the bus - the fare in 2006 was 3 DH (30 cent) one way.
The bus stops on the way were not always recognizable, but usually when we saw people on the way waving at the bus, most of the time the bus stopped and took them along!
Magic Jamaa el Fna square
by Procaccini
It's a fantastic square by night.
During the day is only a big place with many stands selling tropical fruits and clothes, and some snake-charmers, with some people standing and chatting in the shadow, waiting for the night, and many tourists from all over the world.
But when the sunset arrives, everything changes and the square becomes animated by all kind of people, like a circus at open air, with acrobats, folk-singers of stories from the desert, old women who want to read the future in your hand, many stands selling food, musicians and snake-charmers again.
The lights and the colors of the night create a charming and magical atmosphere of dream.
nearby Atlas mountains
by tini58de
If you have a little spare time, do try to go out of Marrakesh into the Atlas mountains. There are various options: Ourika valley is one, or - as we did - go to Ouarzazate, which leads you all the way across the Atlas mountains, passing the Tichka pass and down again to the street of Kasbahs.
On our way to Ouarzazate we visited Ait ben Haddou - a Kasbah that has been named Unesco World Heritage site - and that is for a good reason! I had been fascinated by this place some twenty years ago and this fascination has not changed after all this time!
Secrets and contrasts.
by belgianchocolate
There is little I can tell you to prepare for an
experience like 'Marrakesh'.
CONTRASTS
between the old medina
and the modern parth of Guéliz. The traditional way
of making leather and the modern shopping centers...
SECRETS
can be found behind the thick red walls
in the city. A cemetary , palaces , tombs....
so many people living in little alleys...
The thing I can do ,
is telling you my experiences ,
how I lived the city.

Q: Berber Jewelry "Are there souks that have Berber necklaces and would anyone know their name & location?
Thanks.

A: "Go to the main souk and you'll find lots of jewelries of all types in here
You'd find them also all round Djema el Fina as well as casual stands along the roads
