How to get from Barcelona to Marrakesh!!! Cheap!!

by rachael_eid

My friend and I are currently staying in Barcelona and need to get to Marrakesh as cheaply as possible by November 14th.
Does anyone have any suggestions and prices for buses and trains and how long it will take us to get there?
We don´t mind travelling over night on buses with chickens and toothless men as long as it doesn´t eat into our limited souvenier shopping budget.
Any suggestions at all would be helpful

Hi.I don't know if you were trying to tell a joke or were talking seriously when you started talking about chickens and toothless men on buses but that made me laugh. Do you watch much TV? Something like a movie showing Arabs like uncivilized people, they get into an old bus with their chickens and goats and whatever..I myself saw some movies like that. Anyway, you can get the train from Tangier to Marrakesh, It won't cost you much, and is faster and more comfortable than Buses.
Have fun and Enjoy your stay,
Abdou.

Everybody knows the chickens go on top of the bus :-)

Supratours CTM run a regular airconditioned comfy seat bus from Tangier to Marrakesh, and the trains are reasonably priced but unless you get the overnight train you will have to change at Sidi kacem, price is about £12,the bus being fractionally cheaper than the train. The 'chicken' bus which takes much longer as it stops to let toothless people off in the middle of no where,is not much cheaper but is a lot more fun.The seats are a bit hard but you get to meet plenty of wonderful moroccans who are quite naturally transporting their livestock to their villages.I seem to remember chickens sat at the front with the driver and a chap who's job seems to be to entertain the driver.

I feel weird deferring to these cats so much but it really gives a person some more to play with than individual posts on this particular subject

Go here for developing your cheap travel strategies, times to get there, etc.

Oh. Search: "Chicken" will result in 1 match explaining that buses are used sometimes used for transporting them.

However,
Found 0 matches for toothless. Sorry, no results for your search.

For this man's money - go first class on the train (it shouldn't bust the bank, boo.)

OH. If you can avoid it. Don't take the buses. Too many funky stories of them overturning or worse.

Travel Tips for Marrakesh

Chez Ali...Fantasia

by austen1973

Remember those 1001 nights palaces you've seen in movies ? Well, if you're in Marrakech don't forget to go to "Chez Ali" to spend an evening in one of them, entertainment and great food is guaranteed....

Gourmet with the delicious and huge portion of couscous, tajine and mechoui you're served in the first part of the evening with some entertainment. It consists of several group of folklore dancers and singers dressed tradionally performing before you (yes, feel free to join them !!). Don't be scared by the youyouyou shrieked by women, it means happiness...

The second part of entertainment, starting around 11pm is.....Yasmine and fantasia.
Fantasia is a traditional show were riders show theirs horsemanship as well as their use of antique rifles. At the every end of the show, you have great arab music with the belly dancer Yasmine...

Tagine at Chez Chegrouni

by andysum about Chez Chegrouni

On the edge of the Djemaa el-Fna square, sits this small restaurant which offers a cheap place to try out some of the local cuisine. Not as cheap as the market stalls in the centre of the square itself, but perhaps my stomach wasn't brave enough to try the market just yet. It may be strange that the waiter passes you a notepad and a pen to write down your order, but once you've placed it, service was quick and portions were good sized. The chicken tagine, with lemon and olives was the dish I ordered more than once from this establishment. With a side order of fries (hey, not everything has to be local ;-) ), and complimentary bread to mop up the tagine juices, it made a very satisfying meal.

This is a huge open square in the middle of Marrakech where all of the people, or at least all of the men int he city gather at night to eat, talk, drink tea and watch the spectacles, including fire eaters, snake charmers, 10 year old boxing boys and storytellers.

Medersa Ben Youssef

by travelmad478

Built in the 16th century, this complex housed a school/university and contains classrooms, galleries, and dormitory rooms set around its courtyards. Much of the architecture here reminded me of the Alhambra in Spain, which was constructed around the same time. The carving around doorways, columns, and upper walls is spectacular.

Welcome to MARRAKESH

by Leipzig

Marrakesh is the capital of the south. It's one of the four Imperial Cities. Its name comes from the word "Mraksh" which means "the town". Founded in 11th century by Abou Bekr, leader of the Almoravidsm. Until 1062 it was just a encampment before Youssuf Ibn Taschin built the first mosque here. Most of the stucco buildings have been colored in ochre or red, that's why Marrakesh is also called "The Red City". Today, you don't find cars in the centre because streets are too narrow to allow them.
