POLANA-HOTEL by PEE-WEE Set amidst swaying palms and landscaped gardens on the Bay of Maputo, The Polana retains the graceful elegance of a bygone era. The marble entrance hall has an ornate caged lift to convey guests to their en-suite bedrooms, each of which has air-conditioning, satellite TV offering 12 channels, free internet access, a mini-bar and writing desk. The rooms open onto balconies overlooking the bay. Dining options include a coffee shop and the informal Terrace Restaurant. Gastronomic theme evenings feature Italian, Portuguese and fisherman’s specialities. Other facilities include a casino, swimming-pool, tennis-court, gymnasium, delicatessen, and courtesy bus service for guests to the airport, the Costa do Sol and the downtown market. Conference and banqueting facilities cater for up to 300 guests.

When we got out of the plane at 10 in the morning the heat was unbelievable. Being used to the heat in SA I didn't think it would be so much different. Well that is why when I walked into the foyer of the hotel it felt like an oasis in the dessert. My first impressions were definitely made by an unbelievable need for aircon. I like nice-looking buildings. So you can see for yourself it is a "pretty" building. The staff may not always be fluent in English but they try very hard and are very helpful and professional. They started off by putting us in the wrong room. We complained. They put us in a sea-facing room. They said they will take it up with the travel agent and we never heard anything again. Problem solved easily. Second problem. The toilet in the new room doesn't flush. Few minutes later - problem solved. Third problem. Nighttime. Kids need a bath. No water. Call reception. Few minutes later problem solved. So yes everything wasn't perfect but they went out of their way to accomodate us. You can even order another pillow if you don't like the one on your bed. Most of the rooms have a little balcony with a beautiful seaview. The gardens are pretty and well maintained. The pool is a bliss and at nighttime the water is absolutely fabulous. There is even a gym with the newest equipment but with the amount of time we spent walking around we didn't feel the need to use it. Maybe we should have because the breakfast, included in the room price, is brilliant. Being use to a bowl of Muesli or a yoghurt for breakfast I started off well. They have Muesli and yogurt and I thought adding some fruit to this won't harm. By the end of the week I had muesli, yoghurt and fruit but also a pancake with a mushroom mix and some sweets with the coffee. Maybe that is why they have the gym.
Great pool. Good security. They even have guards on the beach to keep the vendors from entering the pool area. Great service. Nice views over the sea from rooms and pool area. Every room has it's own safe which makes life so much easier. Airport shuttle. Ice machine on every floor. Believe me this was very welcome.

by kenHuocj Triunfo Guest House -Corporate Haven Designed to cater to the needs of business travellers, this accommodation may also suit the discriminating tourist who enjoys his comfort. There are three guest houses in the Maputo area: 1:Bairro Triunfo, 2:Sommerschield and 3:Matola. We won’t include details of the accommodation in Bairro Triunfo as this house is fully booked well into the year 2000. The Matola house is 7km from the entrance to the Mozal Plant and has its own restaurant, with well-thought out menu.
The newest addition to the group is the SOMMERSCHIELD house, which is situated in a quiet, residential suburb near many of the embassies. All houses have a swimming pool, satellite TV and secure car parking and all rooms are air-conditioned with bathrooms en suite. ***** Highly recommended and excellent value for money. The Barra Lodge was a fantastic place to stay. We stayed in a large bungalow with a couple bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a large front porch. We paid about $28 US dollars a night. We stayed one night at the Barra Reef Resort and paid 3 or 4 times as much. It was a nice place, but the beach was the same.
Great location, good, inexpensive food Tons of space in the huts Fresh fish or Prawns every day from the locals on the beach Theme: InnPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Right on the beach (Barra Beach), you can't miss itDirections: There is only one road on the beach. Barra Lodge is situated in one of the most picturesque areas in Mozambique, with spectacular views Barra Lodge is situated 485km north of Maputo, access by road is a pleasant drive by tarred road which is suitable for the passage of a normal vehicle. However, the last 7km leading to the lodge is a sand road where a 4x4 is necessary. Those with normal vehicles will be collected from a safe parking area. lovely beaches and the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean. , I think they have upgraded the road to the lodge, at this lodge is a backpacker hostel called a bunk house, its a good bunk house, can get meals at the lodge, 4 beds per room,( the main lodge is totally over priced!) and I have recently found the standard of the lodge has gone down a lot. This tip is for the hostel and not for the lodge. http://www.backpack.co.za/accommod/mozambiq/barra.html http://www.barralodge.co.za/
Good hostel accom, PLEASE NOTE THIS TIP IS FOR HOSTEL ACCOM AND NOT FOR THE LODGE ITSELF.

The first thing you notice as you walk up to the entrance of the hotel is the ornate uniforms of the Doormen. Hotel Cardoso is one of the 2 premier hotels in Maputo and charges accordingly. You walk through a nice dark panelled lobby to enter the outside garden and pool area - and the whole Bay of Maputo is at your feet! The spacious and open terrace offers stunning views. If the price puts you off from staying at this top hotel, then at least go for a tour and a drink at the poolside Bar Por do Sol. This is an excellent place to watch the sun set over the city and the bay. Service is friendly and fast. The environment is welcoming. The facilities are fantastic by local standards. Only when you have a look in the primitive gift shop and see postcards with 20-year-old photos do you realise the fledgling efforts at luxury. Prices are high, but they do include all taxes and transfers from the Airport. This is a great service for a first entry into Maputo. There are 131 bedrooms, all of which have: * Private bathroom * Air conditioning * Satellite TV * Mini bar * International direct-dial telephone and internet access points * Hairdryer * 24 hour room service * Same day laundry, and dry cleaning service. * Breakfast in the Restaurant is included in the room price There are 3 kinds of rooms: * A Seaview Room * A Flamingo Room - larger, with a more spacious seating area and balcony. * The Luxury Suites have a large lounge and a huge balcony Dining is either in the Formal Restaurante Comandante serving international and Mozambican dishes including outside on the terrace by the pool. The Cafe O Navegador is available for something lighter.
The hotel also offers: * A boutique selling local fabrics, pottery, handicrafts and batiks. * 4 meeting rooms of various capacities. The largest, Salao Bayete has a capacity for up to 100 delegates. * The meeting rooms as well as the spacious hotel gardens provide an ideal venue for wedding receptions, banquets and functions. * The Business Centre offers: - Secretarial service - Translation services - Fax/photocopying Car parking is free They can also arrange: * Car Hire * Currency Exchange at reception. * Leisure outing like: golf, fishing, boat trips and beach visits Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: most expensiveAddress: Ave Martiers De Mueda 707 BoxPhone: 25-814-91071Directions: Opposite the Natural History Museum up the hill in the South East corner of the city, overlooking the Maputo BayWebsite: http://www.hotelcardoso.co.mz/

You get what you pay for. And Polana has it all: • Casino • Presidential Suites • Swimming Pools • Tennis Courts • Art Gallery • Conference Facilities • Gym/Steam Room/Aerobics • Several bars and restaurants My budget did not allow me to stay there, but I did go for a visit. They have large verandas overlooking Maputo Bay and a huge outdoor pool. It might be worth a quick swim and a drink if your budget is like mine. They have several gift shops that actually do offer a descent range of gifts (rare in Maputo). The staff are friendly, immaculate and attentive. It is a first class hotel. They also have a Casino if you want to gamble!

nice for the price, as you can see I have added quite a few pic, I think its good to see what a camp site looks like, and on the one pic you can see amall huts, thats BASIC alternative accommodation.

Located at Tofo Beach As you enter the compound you just feel relaxed. The breeze sways through the palm trees as you go down the sandy lane that runs the length of the bungalows. They are right on the beach and offer great views without all the hustle of nearby backpacker hostels. The thatched 'Chalets' come in 2 and 4 person versions with bathroom. The rooms are modest and clean with comfortable beds and large mosquito nets and ceiling fans. The bathroom is Spartan, but has a great shower and plenty of hot water. The only noise you will hear is the tide. Just outside your door are fridges and chest freezers you can use to make your own ice. Just plug them in! This is a family run establishment and human security is supplemented with friendly dogs. All of the hotels, restaurants and bars in Tofo are a short, relaxing and beautiful walk away. This is at the start of the wide area of the beach that goes on for about 2 miles. Please note: You will pay $40 for 2 people if you only stay 1 night. The nice owner will not negotiate, even though they are never full. If you stay more than 1 night, I am sure the price will come down.
You can pay them $1 for self-catering facilities or have your own barbeque on the beach. In the morning a man comes and washes your car (just tip him). You will leave here refreshed and relaxed, especially if you drove here Theme: Pension/GuesthousePrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: TOFO BEACHPhone: (258) 23 29009Directions: North part of beach, stay to the right
