Smugglers - vilanculos: Lively bar and right on the beach
I stayed for 2 nights, either side of a boat trip to the islands, the bar and hotel was busy both nights and there was a great atmosphere. They served great food and the rooms were good.

Self-catering
Rustic, very basic accommodation. The lodges/camp sites are right on the beach. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to be close to nature and do their own thing.

Barra Lodge.: Accommodation on the beach.
Barra Lodge is set in one of the most picturesque areas in Mozambique, with spectacular views of pristine beaches and the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean.
Access by road is a pleasant drive from Zimbabwe by tarred road which is suitable for the passage of a normal vehicle. The drive from Maputo is hell on earth as the road must have at least 200 pot holes per km! However, the last 7km's leading to the lodge is a dirt road.
The largely unexplored reefs within close proximity to the lodge offers endless pleasure for scuba-diving and snorkeling.
Barra has secluded, unspoilt beaches, bordered by the Inhambane estuary on one side and the sea on the other. The lodge is nestled among groves of coconut trees.

Bazaruto Lodge: The pearl of the Indian Ocean
The island of Bazaruto is situated around 2o km East of Vilanclulos.
Arriving on Bazaruto is like arriving in paradise. The lodge is situated on the Northern Side of the Island and offers 5 Star amenities directly on the beach. 26 chalets with African decoration are situated among lush subtropical vegetation.
All amenities can be found here off the beaten track including restaurant, bar and swimming pool.
The island is one of the best diving areas on earth and diving courses are also offered. Other water activities include game fishing, snorkelling, sail boat excursions and water skiing.

Vilanculos Beach Lodge: Gateway to Paradise
Vilcanculos Beach Lodge serves well as a gateway to Bazaruto Island which is directly opposite.
My first stay in the lodge was while I was ill with Malaria and I will never forget the great care the staff and management took while I was staying there waiting for a flight out to South Africa.
The lodge is situated beautiful just along the beach, using wood and reed. Rooms are spacious and food is great!
The lodge has all facilities, pool, restaurant and also arranges outings to the near by islands.

Julian's Place: Increadible Ambiance in Vilanculos
There is not much here in the way of facilities, however, the ambiance makes up for it and much much more. There are two bungalows here right on the dunes of the beach looking out towards the Bazaruto Islands. It is really rustic but increadible beautiful. There is also plenty of space to camp.
My travelling mates and I made fires every night and enjoy food from the local markets. What a peaceful place to relax for a few days in Vilanculos.

Zombie Cucumber: Cooozy hangout in Vilanculo
A great backpackers with 3 huts for 2/3 persons and a dorm for 9 pax. The dorm is nice and clean with superb mosquito nets(NEEDED) the staff are suberb, and Stephanie is a good chef and John is a friendly barman.
Nice clean quiet friendly
Dorm was about 8U$
and huts 12U$
Not sure about the prices but about the same as other backpackers in the area, there aren't that many though.

vilanculos camping: Camping
Vilanculos camping ground is about a 15 minute walk form walk. It is right on the beach. At xmas time it is full with south africans there for the whole xmas period. it has basic facilities and a bar. Its only $4 for a pitch.
