    LUXURY ON THE BAY

    by

    The first thing you notice as you walk up to the entrance of the hotel is the ornate uniforms of the Doormen. Hotel Cardoso is one of the 2 premier hotels in Maputo and charges accordingly. You walk through a nice dark panelled lobby to enter the outside garden and pool area - and the whole Bay of Maputo is at your feet! The spacious and open terrace offers stunning views. If the price puts you off from staying at this top hotel, then at least go for a tour and a drink at the poolside Bar Por do Sol. This is an excellent place to watch the sun set over the city and the bay.
    Service is friendly and fast. The environment is welcoming. The facilities are fantastic by local standards. Only when you have a look in the primitive gift shop and see postcards with 20-year-old photos do you realise the fledgling efforts at luxury.
    Prices are high, but they do include all taxes and transfers from the Airport. This is a great service for a first entry into Maputo.
    There are 131 bedrooms, all of which have:
    * Private bathroom
    * Air conditioning
    * Satellite TV
    * Mini bar
    * International direct-dial telephone and internet access points
    * Hairdryer
    * 24 hour room service
    * Same day laundry, and dry cleaning service.
    * Breakfast in the Restaurant is included in the room price
    There are 3 kinds of rooms:
    * A Seaview Room
    * A Flamingo Room - larger, with a more spacious seating area and balcony.
    * The Luxury Suites have a large lounge and a huge balcony
    Dining is either in the Formal Restaurante Comandante serving international and Mozambican dishes including outside on the terrace by the pool. The Cafe O Navegador is available for something lighter.

    Unique Quality:
    The hotel also offers:
    * A boutique selling local fabrics, pottery, handicrafts and batiks.
    * 4 meeting rooms of various capacities. The largest, Salao Bayete has a capacity for up to 100 delegates.
    * The meeting rooms as well as the spacious hotel gardens provide an ideal venue for wedding receptions, banquets and functions.
    * The Business Centre offers:
    - Secretarial service
    - Translation services
    - Fax/photocopying
    Car parking is free
    They can also arrange:
    * Car Hire
    * Currency Exchange at reception.
    * Leisure outing like: golf, fishing, boat trips and beach visits

    Directions: Opposite the Natural History Museum up the hill in the South East corner of the city, overlooking the Maputo Bay

    Cardoso Hotel - Hotel with a view

    by

    This is still my most favorite hotel in Maputo. Overlooking the river as well as the town it has got beautiful rooms and a relaxed yet defined service.
    The sun sets are spectacular here!!

    Directions: Close to the town centre. Signs indicating the direction to the hotel are found on the main road.

Maputo Tip

by Maputosimon

Well...what can I say? It's tough to find bad food in Mozambique. The fish was caught that morning, the vegetables have been cooked just that way for generations, and boy, is it cheap to eat out at a local-run restaurant! My only, strange advice, is avoid foreign-owned places, because they're more likely to use imported ingredients or chefs! The food couldn't be healthier, tastier or fresher - enjoy! Hotel Cardoso restaurant gives great food - Polana restaurant is a ripoff.
