Sandpiper Dunes: Swakopmund
If you are travelling with a group of friends, for business purposes or with the family and kids, then i strongly recommend the Sandpiper Dunes. This is a gorgeous self catering Hotel with excellent service, amazing units which each comprise up to 3 bedrooms with double or single beds and a braai (BBQ) indoor area. Its living room is spacious and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need. No need to buy plastic plates etc because they stock it all! Theres a lovely swimming pool ,well and safely gaurded for the kiddies and chairs for that sunbathing afternoon and a entertainment room with a pool table etc. Whats brilliant about it is that its situated on the outskirts of Swakopmund on the way to Walvis so if you need your privacy to escape from the city. here you will find it. If you also wish to escape for a walk along the beach or perhaps in the desert, well then this is the perfect location too. The only negtiave aspect i found was that one might need their own car because there isn't a shop in the vicinity and therefore one would have to go into the city for supplies. Its a small area whith other accomodation places and private homes which are gorgeous sights for the eyes so therefore there is security walking around and at night its safe too.
I found the service and the staff exceptional and friendly and professional in their manner. The house-keeping was done everyday and when we arrived at the end of a long day we always returned to a spotless unit. If your with a huge group renting out half of the place, like we were and quit a noisy bunch too....its such a relaxed environment that noone minds and everyone just relaxes and does their own thing.
I must say it left a fantastic impression on me and if you should ever consider visiting this area then i strongly recommend that you check out this place!
As i mentioned:
-Kiddies play park (small but sufficient)
-Beach a few steps away
-Desert across the road
-Indoor BBQ area/fireplace (with everything included...ok except the meat and charcoal...dont push your luck)
-Main Bedroom with bathroom and seperate bathroom too for other rooms.
Everything you need in one place...!

Alternative Space: Great Place to stay in Swakopmund
A bit out of town, but the place is truly unique. Frenus and Sibylle Rohrig are your congenial hosts, and Frenus is an architect, so you really have a very unique mixture of unique rooms and indoor and outdoor living space. Each room is unique. Frenus is a great host and if you want some interesting conversation, he was a wealth of local knowledge.
Unique and pleasant rooms, with a great mix of indoor and outdoor living space. Georgette loved the outdoor bathtub and took full advantage of it.
Parking is a bit quirky, you can fit four vehicles, but Frenus may have to park yours for you and if you are the first one in, you will be the last one out.
Location is perhaps the biggest drawback, as you are a good 4 minute drive / 15 minute walk from downtown.
Frenus and Sybille live about three doors down, so when you ring the doorbell, it rings at their house and someone comes dashing down the street to let you in.

Gruner Kranz Lodge: Gruner Kranz Lodge
I noticed that most of the overland tour groups stay here. Did not go in, but it seemed like it was more the younger crowd that stayed here.

Even when is not near downtown, i really enjoyed this nice bed and breakfast, (great rooms), i stayed at the cormoran´s room. I was the only guest at that time, but the staff was very friendly and helpful. They even took me downtown in their own car. Highly recommended.
