Luxury Desert

Amazing! That's how I'd describe the service and accommodation standards at this magnificent establishment.

From the time of arrival till the day I checked-out, everything was perfect. I was impressed the very minute I entered the lobby. Servants were at my beck and command throughout my stay, and this allowed for maximum comfort and relaxation.

For anyone seeking the comfort of a luxury five star hotel while visiting the Namib desert and surrounding areas, I would HIGHLY recommend this fine hotel. It creates an elegant, upmarket feel after a long day of dune-climbing, shopping, game-drives, etc. The perfect retreat for any family holiday or business get-away.

Unique Quality: Each room has an airconditioner, Cable TV, Mini bar, telephone, work-station, Bath and shower, hairdryer, safe and an abundance of closet space for my clothes and bags.

The hotel has its own spa on the roof, complete with jacuzzi and pool, allowing for incredible views of the city and surrounding desert when taking a swim.

The hotel also boasts a small casino and full-size bar which caters for even the most discerning of guests. This allows for some entertainment at night.

The Dunes restaurant is a perfect retreat for a decadent meal, be it breakfast, lunch or supper.

A 24hr room service is available, regal dining room with soft piano music playing in the background as well as an entire array of coffee shops, boutiques, jewellers, etc, as the hotel is situated within a shopping mall.

It is also conveniently situated in close proximity to the 2 major airports in Windhoek, and a chauffer service allows for guests to travel to and from these airports, as well as to other places in and around the hotel's immediate area.

This is by far the most luxurious hotel in Windhoek.

Luxury in Windhoek

by mpanizza about Kalahari Sands Hotel and Casino

It sounds like a Vegas reject, but it has it's charm. Comfortable rooms and good (but overpriced) buffets in the restaurant. If you absolutely must gamble, you can check out the casino in the lobby. It's really lame and seems to cater to the growing population of Chinese business people in the city.

Apparently there is a nice pool on the rooftop, but it was closed for renovation while I was in town. Casino and in a mall with convenient grocery store, pharmacy, and wine/beer shop ;-)

Also a good overall location right in the middle of the city.

Windhoek's Best Downtown Hotel

by jrhonj about The Kalahari Sands Hotel & Casino

A modern, Sun International high rise hotel located in the center of Windhoek's shopping and government districts, the Kalahari Sands offer all the amenities a seasoned traveler will expect from a first rate hotel. It's small, but animated casino provides plenty of entertainment for the most avid players, and the hotel's restaurant puts out the most amazing buffet meals on a daily basis. There is even a fitness center, spa and rooftop pool for those who over indulge. The food is fantastic!

German houses

by SirRichard

In Independence Avenue, you can find this little old houses that make you think of Bavaria, more than Africa. Most of them are now tourist shops and offices. At left side you can see the Kalahari Sands Hotel, a classical here and a common meeting point for safaris...

Taxi in the Windhoek

by georeiser

Most taxis cruise along Independence Avenue south of the intersection with Fidel Castro Street. The easiest place to catch them is in front of the Kalahari Sands Hotel. Make sure you agree on the price before taking them; most will ask for at least 50 N$ to go anywhere around Windhoek.
