View from chalet, Namib Desert Lodge by nigelw6443 After a dusty, bumpy journey we arrived from Windhoek in the early afternoon. It was pleasant to see this green oasis of the lodge sitting at the foot of an escarpment of petrified sand dunes that glowed a reddy orange in the afternoon sun with yellowed grass savannah spreading out as far as the eye could see! This is Africa! After checking in we are shown to our room, which sort of reminds me of an English holiday camp. The bungalows or chalets are set in blocks or the larger ones are individual, all with en-suite bathrooms and a small patio area. The lodge itself has a large dining room and the meals are buffet style although starters and desserts are served at the table. The food was plentiful and quite interesting as we had Eland Stroganof the first evening and Oryx Goulash the next. One highlight of the meal was the excellent wine list. Next to the dining hall is a large terrace that over looks a waterhole that is floodlit at night, although we didn't see any animals the Namib Desert Lodge also is a game reserve known as the Gondwana Namib Park and has Oryx, Sprinbok and Ostrich. The service was good although everyone in our group had a query with their bill when we checked out. Integrated with the dining hall is a well stocked bar, also next to the terrace is a tv/games room with pool tables and also conference facilities. This building faces on to a well groomed garden and newly built swimming pool. There is also a Curio shop which looked well stocked although we never had time to have a look. I would recommend this lodge as for location it is perfect.
Although our room was a bit spartan there were newer rooms being built and the new owners were upgrading everything. The lodge sits on an underground reservoir so they supply their own water, they also bottle the water which is then sold and money going to conservation. The views from the lodge are superb although as I said we looked out at yellow grassy savannah but this was unusual because they had ahd more rain than usual that year so normally you wouldn't have the grass but the red sand like in the desert. You can take trails around this area which are safe to walk, they also offer a game drives and as we did a sundowner drive. Another good point was the amount of birdlife seen around the lodge. I didn't get to photo all, but I did see Rosyfaced Parrot, Laughing Doves, Crimson breasted Shrike, Bulbuls and Glossy Starlings to name but a few. Camping in Sesriem by SanguiniA I just loved this campsite - plenty of space, and set in a really nice location in the desert. It is just a few hundred metres away from the tarred load leading to Sussusvlei and just 4km away from the Sesriem Canyon, making its location ideal. There is a shop selling basic souveniers and groceries (and of course, beer!), a small gas station, an office where to purchase the permits to visit Sussusvlei, a swimming pool and toilets and showers with hot water.
This is a campsite in the desert, so it is unique in a way. Also the birds chirping in the morning is a real nice wake up call.

Camp Mwisho by Myndo I am not sure under what Cathegorie this goes. It may be best, if I describe it: Camp Mwisho contains 4 Tent-houses. 3 are close together, one -the"honeymoon-suite" is a little on the side. The tents are built on a wooden platform and stay all year. in it you have a real double-bed with all comfort and out on the back-side a real toilet and shower. These are inside a bamboo-fence but right adjacent. Luxus in tents. Never had that before.
The view is wonderful. All you can see is pure desert. Wide dry land. Wild birds, antelopes, etc. Dinner is in the main building where the owners live. The food was excellent, I would give them five stars for the cooking and for beeing so friendly. Lunch, Dinner and Sunset-Drive with Sundowner inclusive. By the way: if you speak french: they are from Belgia. They were in Zimbabwe until they had to leave. Now they are here and had that idea with ballooning in the desert (see must-do tip). Sesriem Campsite is wonderful place to camp in the desert. The camp itself is modern, nice and clean. Showers are everywhere and as it not that crowded place, you can try the mixed showers :) There is a store for some food supply & drink in the camp.

Sinclair Sunset by Myndo The Sinclair Guest Farm is located in the middle of a wide Plateau. Around the house it is quite green, but elseif the Plateau is filled with yellow gras that moves with the gentle wind.
The food you get for Dinner and Breakfast is almost completely self made. The only exception I remeber, was the cheese (imported from the EU). The rest: saussages, bread, butter, marmelade, the meat etc does all come from the Farm. On the Farm there is an old Copper Mine. It is a must see. Go there and have a look at the old equipment and the blue-green stones. Try to find a nice one to take with you (just remember there is a weight limitation on the baggage you are taking into the airplane :-) The Mine would still have Copper, but the effort to bring the Stone somewhere is too high and wouldn?t pay out. So the companies gave it up. The view from the mine when the sun goes down is so beautiful (see picture). and yes: that is a Quivertree you see. View onto Buellsport by Myndo There is no Problem in finding the Buellsport Farm, since the Place is named after it and it is quite alone in the surroundings. Two roads cross here, and at the Farm there is a Gas station and a Shop. In the Evening (and under the day) you eat together with the owners and other residents. The meat is mostly self-hunted (in their area) and very good. It is Kudu or Oryx or some other Antelope. Very fine meat, indeed. Also: don?t miss the evening drives this Guest Farms offers. You get an idea of the area they are living (and working) in and you get to see a lot of animals if you are a little lucky. Here there are Groundpigs and lots of Oryx Antelopes, also Mountain Zebras
At Buellsport they have special hiking tours, (see the "off the beaten track" tip.) And they help you a lot to find a good one for you.

It is a desert Motel - in the middle of nowhere but the accomodation is great. Make your Hotel/camping reservations as early as possible. The roads are mainly good - but plan daytrips of about 500 km max. Driving by night is excluded and dangerous. Visiting this country by Bike is also popular -but only for freaks
There are some pets walking around and they will accompagne you through the desert - keeping you safe for scorpions and other wild life. The swimmingpool is of course an experience - getting served with cool drinks! Theme: MotelDirections: Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge is a convenient and unique stopover in the desert - only 240 km from Swakopmund, 240 km from Windhoek and 120 km from Sesriem.

by euzkadi There are hotels in Sesriem, but the best way to experience the desert is camping. I traveled with Wild Dog and Crazy Kudu tours, good camping tools, good food and a very friendly staff....highly recommended. If you prefer to stay in Deluxe hotels you can choose from hotels like The Desert Homestead, the Le Mirage Hotel or the Sossouvlei Lodge, right in the entrance to the park. Theme: Campground

Sesreim Camp Ground by Waxbag Sesreim camp ground is the only camping available inside the park. It is desirable to stay inside the park because the road to the dunes opens earlier for those staying in Sesreim than those staying outside. If you want to be on the dunes for sunrise you must stay here inside the park. Facilities seem to be in a bad state of repair. the showers are more or less cold with little pressure, the service personel seem to be suffering from cronic apathy and really don't seem motivated to ensure the best stay for their clients. However, the views from the camp site is brilliant, especially if you can get a site on the west side of the camp ground. Camp sites are really private and give you a sense of isolation. There are plenty of springbok, gemsbok and yellow mongoose that will strole through your campsite to keep you company though. Cost: $220 Nambian Dollars per day for two people

The chalet with a view by nigelw6443 The accomodation is basic but quite comfortable. The chalets or bungalows all face outward towards the countryside and offer views. We had a noisy cricket in the roof for the first night and hardly slept.
There is a nice pool with a garden although this does get a bit busy. Plenty of birdlife to be seen whilst sitting on the patio of the chalet.
