Travel Tips for Namib-Naukluft Park

The Namib-Naukluft Park

by Gili_S

The Namib-Naukluft Park is one of the unique places I ever visited so far. With the Namib desert, the dunes and canyons to the mountains area of Naukluft. I admit, I knew very little about this place before visiting, and now I just fell in love with it and I can’t wait to go and visit again.

Sunset and Reflection

by Waxbag

After a great day enjoying the dunes of the Namib Desert it is great to relax at the scenic Sesreim camp ground. If you are fortunate to get a site that is on the West side of the camp ground you will be well away from other campers and out closer to the dunes. Enjoy a cold beverage bought 20 minutes earlier from the small camp ground store and make a fire under the thorn tree and watch the sun set casting long shadows over the deepening red color sand. The short golden grasses in contrast to the sand and deep blue sky will be a memory never forgotten. You are in the middle of nowhere and it feel nice.

THE SUNDOWNER

by DAO

A Sundowner is a delightful expression used across Southern Africa to describe having and adult beverage at sun down. Of course it can be any time, but the best time to do so is at sunset watching a beautiful African sky. This can be enjoyed anywhere. All you need is: You, a few friends (optional but preferred), a drink and nature.

Please have a look at some sundowner pictures taken here.

Enjoy!

TOILET PAPER

by DAO

I really hope you read this before you leave to come here. There are no stores out here and there is no water. You will be lucky to even have this kind of privacy. I suggest those wet-wipe products. At the very least have some tissue.

Watermelons

by Gili_S

Those are the unique watermelons that growing here in the desert, they are maybe most significant and important for the ecological cycle of the desert life here in the Namib Desert as they are the source of food and water for many of the animals that living here.
*Please do not touch or pick such of you see any.
