SESRIEM CAMPSITE

If you want a good campsite at Sossusvlei (Sesriem campsite) you need to book in Windhoek and/or ahead of time. Otherwise you only get cancelations or sleep in your car.

Sesriem Campsite

Sesriem Campsite is wonderful place to camp in the desert. The camp itself is modern, nice and clean. Showers are everywhere and as it not that crowded place, you can try the mixed showers :)
There is a store for some food supply & drink in the camp.

Camping

There are hotels in Sesriem, but the best way to experience the desert is camping. I traveled with Wild Dog and Crazy Kudu tours, good camping tools, good food and a very friendly staff....highly recommended. If you prefer to stay in Deluxe hotels you can choose from hotels like The Desert Homestead, the Le Mirage Hotel or the Sossouvlei Lodge, right in the entrance to the park.

Camping in the desert ....

I just loved this campsite - plenty of space, and set in a really nice location in the desert. It is just a few hundred metres away from the tarred load leading to Sussusvlei and just 4km away from the Sesriem Canyon, making its location ideal.

There is a shop selling basic souveniers and groceries (and of course, beer!), a small gas station, an office where to purchase the permits to visit Sussusvlei, a swimming pool and toilets and showers with hot water.

Unique Quality: This is a campsite in the desert, so it is unique in a way. Also the birds chirping in the morning is a real nice wake up call.

Sesreim, Camp Inside the Namib Desert Park

Sesreim camp ground is the only camping available inside the park. It is desirable to stay inside the park because the road to the dunes opens earlier for those staying in Sesreim than those staying outside. If you want to be on the dunes for sunrise you must stay here inside the park.

Facilities seem to be in a bad state of repair. the showers are more or less cold with little pressure, the service personel seem to be suffering from cronic apathy and really don't seem motivated to ensure the best stay for their clients.

However, the views from the camp site is brilliant, especially if you can get a site on the west side of the camp ground. Camp sites are really private and give you a sense of isolation. There are plenty of springbok, gemsbok and yellow mongoose that will strole through your campsite to keep you company though.

Cost: $220 Nambian Dollars per day for two people
