Makalani Hotel: open the gates!

We arrived rather late at the hotel. Late and tired and I was irritated at having to drive the car to the car entrance to find it closed & have to drive back down to the reception to expalain. Upon the receptionist telling me the guard would open the gates - that I should just wait, I drove back to the car entrance.... waited....waited....waited.... back to the reception "nope, nobody there..." "ok I get somebody... go wait"..... back to the gates. Finally we got in, humped luggage through a most delightful courtyard and into the room... no thrills but clean and I like clean.

We ate in the hotel resaturant because we were too tired and couldn't be bothered to go out and find somewhere. There was an indoors (with bar and it was full) and there was the outdoors - the courtyard... we chose the courtyard because it really was charming and we didn't fancy people... we were tired!

If you are a meat eater then oyu will do fine here. Being a vegetarian I opted for the vegetarian option of cheese and tomato pizza.... I never dreamed it would come covered in over cooked (as in cooked to their death and cooked again!) carrots.... YUP... I got me a carrot pizza... and the truth of the matter is... I have not had a carrot since! but it was a "holiday moment" which caused great hilarity for the rest of my family as they tucked into their various assorted dead animals with not a carrot in sight!!!

Our room had 2 double beds and, with breakfast included, we paid N$740.26

Makalani Hotel: THE BEST HOTEL IN TSUMEB

This is a great hotel. It's small and intimate. I really felt at home here. The staff checked me into a very nice room with a fantastic bathroom, huge closets, comfortable beds and lots of mirrors. I was introduced to the resident crocodile (pictured), had a good swim in the pool, ate my lovely dinner poolside and even washed my car! I had a few cold beers and then a great nights sleep. This hotel is set in it's own gardens and is a real oasis of relaxation. If you are travelling in Northern Namibia - stay at least one night here.

A nice pool with a great restaurant alongside. A very good buffet breakfast in the morning. Comfortable beds with coffee/tea making facilities in your room. Excellent and exotic decor. Fantastic staff who keep you laughing.
