This was the first hotel I stayed in upon my arrival in Nigeria. Very large, a little rough around the edges, but nice overall.
The hotel complex has a bit of everything within it. About six different restaurants. A decent bar and nightclub.
The staff is courteous and helpful. At no time will you feel hustled as an out-of-towner. The staff will give you a good list of does and don'ts for your town adventures, and some really good suggestions on what you should check out while in Abuja.
The rooms are clean and comfortable. And compared to Lagos prices, extremely affordable--less than half of what you would pay at the Sheraton in Lagos. I will be returning to this hotel inthe coming weeks. It can be easily booked on the Sheraton website or through their customer service line. Weekend discounts apply, greatly reducing the cost.
Like all the other large hotel chains in Abuja this is a big hotel, 540 rooms. Same old fashioned Sheraton style aircon (the 1970's style grid hole in the wall above the entrance) Mine ran at the same speed on all three settings, and the same temperature (warm) on all settings. There was no room safe and when I asked to use the safe at reception they told me it was full. So after a bit of arguing I got upgraded to a club room with a safe for no extra cost.
There's a Sheraton towers lounge (in keeping with Sheraton standards) free tea/coffee/snacks/breakfast/etc and wireless internet with pretty decent speeds.
I wasn't in the towers but slipped into the lounge everyday to check email, nobody asked any questions.
Prices here are 4 times the price on the street. i.e. a Star beer = N600, on the street it's N150 a meat pie in the bakery by the pool is N480 on the street it's N120.
No complaints about the service, standards or the food, except of course the dodgy aircon in my room, but the free upgrade to the club floor settled that quickly.
The Italian restaurant was wonderful. On the first night I went straight in for Carpaccio and it was awesome, the salad was huge and fresh and healthy. Pasta cooked al dente, too much cheese on the pizza, but hey who can complain about that?
Breakfast at the terrace every morning was more than ample and so much variety you didn't have to eat bacon and eggs every day. They had some really fresh smoked salmon every day as well as a variety of local African dishes.
The coffee was freshly brewed and strong, just the way i like it.
Swimming pool, large and inviting but with temperatures in the high 30's it was like bathwater so no escape from the relentless heat.
The steak restaurants portions are about 100 grams over the advertised mass so if you fancy a juicy steak you won't have any complaints here.
I did my booking online and was kept in the loop by email about the booking. I called to check with the reception staff that my booking had actually filtered through to them and they had all the details available so that was a smooth process.
