excalibur/sage hotels: benin experience

i went to benin and relied on experience from contributors to this page...the situation on ground is different...the prefered hotels in that area remains sage hotel and excalibur hotel..to my estimation..

both hotel is got a good pool ambience and guest service....sage is newer and better furnished, excalibur is well kept and the on going expansion i saw will make a difference i hope..

Meridian Lodge Hotels & Resorts: Benin City best hotel

I read about a tip on the new Meridian Lodge Hotels and resorts in benin city.I intended to stay 10 days but i booked only for two nights just to try out the place based on my past experience with socalled hotels in benin city . Behold, when i got there at the hotel, i was speechless and utterly impressed from the masterpiece achitecture to its interior designs. Infact the meridian lodge could be compared to any five star hotel in the western world. Better still, the room rates are very affordable an average of $50 per night. Its staff are well trained and hospitality conscious. The hotel is very modern with state of the art facilities, jaccuzi bathrooms, minibars in every room, flat screen satellite t.v stations, fitness room strictly for guest and electronic card key. The restuarant and bar is very unique and impressive. The kitchen chef is marvelous and can give you any food you need and to your exact taste be it continental, chinese or african dishes. I eventually stayed out my 10 nights at the meridian lodge and for the first time in years i got true value for my money. The location of the hotel is really calm and away from the noisy streets. Its located in the Government reservation area. I strongly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to tavel to benin city.

Serene environment, jaccuzi bathrooms, mini bars, fitness room, satellite t.v stations and many more...

several: Benin City Tips

Fist visit to Benin City three weeks ago. Tried different hotels: The Radheki, Excalibur, Saïdi Hotel and Bibi Motel. The Excalibur is new, modern and slick, and the prices are really quite expensive when you consider where in fact you are !! But if money is not your main preoccupation ( 110€..... The Radheki is not much cheaper but so much more tatty and is ageing badly; the bathrooms are completely unacceptable for this price range; the food is very mediocre for a european palate ( 80 to 90 € ). Saïdi Hotel is run by a colourful and often joking lebanese ex-pat; this hotel has been around for over twenty years, and they haven't got round to re-painting anything yet, nor have they finished repair work which must have begun maybe fifteen years ago, and I guess all the cleaners have been on strike for the last decade ! Food is OK if not cheap ( 50€ ). Bibi Motel is by far the cheapest, and probably gives best value for money if you can take soggy mattresses, awful plumbing, and the most nonchalent room service in the world. Generally, if you're not African, you will not find much to eat you will like anywhere in Benin City.
