Ranging from wood carving to oil painting. Local wood carving, ivory bangles, bronze sculptures, etc. You have to negotiate real hard.

U.S. Dollars in Nigeria?
by Ms.Clark
Can anyone tell me if U.S. dollars are generally accepted at open markets in Nigeria? What I'm wondering is this: If I'm only travelling through for one day, will I be able to buy local food with the bills I have? or do I need to exchange for naira?

hi!
You can not use US dollars in the markets, and even in supermarkets. There are however some supermarkets that are owned by the Lebanese community or the Indian community where the ownwer will gladly exchange the bill into local currency.
you will find it easier however to change money at the large hotels in Nigeria. For example if you were in Kano (north of Nigeria) you would change your hard currency at CENTRAL HOTEL. Many dealers over there always willing to exchange them for you.
In KADUNA (also North) Hamdala Hotel
In Abuja (CENTRAL) at the Sheraton or Hilton Hotels
in LAgos (south) at Eko Hotel
The dealers are usually trustworthy, they of course want to make there cut out of your money but that only usually amounts to say 2-5%.
Enjoy yourself.
