by Wafro The hotel is located inside the Niokolo Koba National Park near the Gambia River and has several rooms, with and without air conditioning. There is a hide out overlooking the river where you can see the animals drinking and playing. There’s a swimming pool where you can take a refreshing dip. .

by Wafro Asta Kebe is one of the better sleeping facilities in Tamba. You have singles and doubles with or without air-con and the swimming pool is the max. The kitchen isn’t my favorite, but you can find some nice restaurants and chop bars in the neighborhood. Le jardin de Martine by Wafro This is a picture of the backyard of a friend of mine, her name is Martine and she's a Swiss lady who lives in Mbour together with her lovely dog Ouakam. She got three small rooms for rent, when your in Mbour ask for Martine and they show you the way. You don’t have that much luxury, but she’s located near the beach and there is a hotel in the neighborhood, where you can swim for a small fee.

roundavel in Gouloumbou by sachara When we came from the Gambia and arrived in Velingara, the Senegalese border town, we had first to refuel and find CFAs. So it was almost dusk, when we could continue our route to Tambacounda. We drove a long time in the dark at a tarred road with a lot of potholes. It was very tiring. Half way in Gouloumbou we had again a checkpoint, where they asked our papers. We did not pay the asked 1000 CFA, but did get our papers back. In the dark we took first a path to the south. I was allready prepared for a bushcamp, but instead we reached a nice campement. The only thing it was closed. A boy brought us to the other side of the mainroad. At the end of the path....a big surprise, another nice campement. We immediately settled down in the bar, took a coconutdrink and gazelle beers and ordered our dinner.
We had a delicious dinner of brochettes and could have a dive in the swimming pool We slept in nice roundavels in a nice green garden. In the huts we had running water and electricity. In the morning we found out that the campement was at the edge of the Gambia River not far from the Niokolo Koba Park. Hotel de Simenti by sachara Hotel de Simenti is has a perfect location in the middle of the Niokolo Koba Park with its terrace overlooking the Gambia River. We stayed in one of the rooms in the main building (see picture) with electrivity, private toilet and shower. Catched a cold, anyway more comfortable than to camp at the Camp the Lion like our fellow-travlllesr did. There is a restaurant and a swimmingpool (empty during our visit). During our visit in november 2004 the new English manager told us, he will renovate the neglected complex. He also bought new furniture and curtains, he said.

Camp de Lion by sachara For camping Camp de Lion is a very beautiful spot, situated in the middle of the park at the Gambia River. We red, that is was possible to put your own tent here or hire a hut. When we arrived at this place (November 2004) we were very surprised to see the bad condition of the place. It looked reallly abandoned and neglected. The huts were all ruined. The guide told us the area was recently flooded by the river. I hope they will rebuild this lovely place very soon. If you like to see the place like it was not far before, look at the page of johnsakura We deciced to take a room in Hotel de Simenti. Our fellowtravellers slept in their tents between the ruined huts and animal night life.

Roundavels at Simenti by sachara Except the hotelrooms hotel de Simenti has also some roundavels, nicily located between the trees. During our visit they were all occupied by a touring group, travelling by large bus. According to our travelguide they are cheaper than our room, but they can house snakes and scorpions and are not mosquito free. We didn´t see the interior of the roundavels, so we could not compare them with our room.
For sure it will be more romantic to stay in one of these traditional huts than in the rather ugly main building. Theme: OtherPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Niokolo Koba ParkDirections: Simenti is about 20 KM from the Dar Salam park entrance.

by traveldave The Hôtel du Djoudj is the only hotel located at the headquarters for Djoudj National Park. All other hotels and hostels in the area are a few miles away. Travelers planning on visiting Djoudj National Park will find the hotel conveniently located, and a pleasant place to stay. My only complaint with this hotel was that there was no hot water in the shower. This was only a problem with my particular room, however, as others in my group did have hot water.
The Hôtel du Djoudj has rooms that are very basic, but clean and comfortable. Although the rooms have air conditioning, it cannot be used for much of the day. The hotel relies on a generator for electricity, and it is turned off during the day until about 5:00 p.m., and is turned off again between 10:30 and 11:00 p.m. Therefore, the air conditioning cannot be run throughout the night either, but nights are generally comfortable in the Sahel. In addition, anyone who has to get up during the night will need a flashlight or candle. Guests can relax by the hotel's swimming pool and enjoy the landscaped gardens. For those wishing to explore the national park, the hotel has six pirogues that can be hired for rides to the pelican colony. Guests can also hire the hotel's mountain bicycles, or even its vehicle for longer rides deep into the park. Theme: HotelComparison: less expensive than average

The vestibule in the first floor by Afreeky This is a very small hotel (6 rooms), with a warm ambiance and a friendly staff. It is run by a Spanish woman (Encarna). Rooms are big (maybe too much), and has a garden big enough to relax and disconnect from the outside. Not far from the beach, it's not the typical hotel with swimming-pool and lots of activities, instead you get personalized attention in anything you need, especially in moving around. The food is delicious, Encarna buys fish everyday in the famous market of Mbour (in the beach, the fish is just off the sea, a must see), but you can ask whatever you want and she or Modou (a great chef!) will cook it for you. The best: the food and the prices (the lowest in all Senegal). The worst: it doesn't have a swimming pool (though there is one in Auberge des Coquillages for 3$). Not suitable for those seeking a Caribbean resort kind of comfort, but very recommendable for anybody else. 4 out of 5.
