Amazing natural resource

The Lac Rose is not so much "off the beaten path" but it is located outside of the city so walking is not an option. There are still several vendors selling their touristy wares. It is amazing to see how the salt is harvested.
Ile de Goree
by kaloz
I did not get to go to the Ile de Goree, as I chose the Lac Rose tour instead. This island was used as a staging area for the slave trade. Sort of like Alcatraz is an island prison, so too was the Ile de Goree. It is quite the anomoly that this pictuesque island has such a dark history.
Without that history this island would probably be a rich persons resort.
Love or hate?

Places like Dakar you will love or hate. It’s the excitant face of dark continent, a capital, with a kind of cosmopolitan atmosphere, a good weather, bars and night life and a mixture of African, colonial and modern styles. This city represents the futures town in Africa. By other side it’s a big and full city, dirty, chaotic, with lots of noise, crowds and handicapped people… After a few days in Senegal, you will think that a capital like Dakar matches.
What to say? You can’t avoid. You have to go and live the moment. I was in Dakar!
Dakar... not what you would think!!!

"Beautiful sky"
As I am looking out from the patio of the conference, I actually make myself turn off all the sound, people and just concentrate on how I am in Dakar, Senegal!!! The skyline looked like something that came out of a van gogh painting with birds that seem regal. The breeze coming from the sea cools things down softly as you are actually able to breathe. This time of day is one of the best. The air is cleaner, the smells are more vibrant and the sky looks like it was painted for you! Just so you would never forget it.
Sorry... cannot remember what this is. Took the pic from inside a bus on the way to a conference.
Marriage in Dakar
by kuere
what a spectacle has it been escorting one of my best women school-friends to Senegal, where she did her 2nd part of marriage with her Senegalesian husband. all the girls & women of our group let prepare very colourful clothes for the ceremony.
we took rich meals of rice & meat and music was all around us.
before and after we also visited the beach, a little outside from Dakar, and I must admit that Fanta is much more refreshing there (-: - try it out!!
