The grounds of the Plantation Club are very attractive. The beach is at the rear, there is an escarpment, with lush tropical vegetation, at the front and a lagoon along one side.

    Beautiful setting.

Another good choice we made! This resort is located 30mins from the airport,at the south east coast of Mahé,a very picturesque place. The chalets are simple yet very clean. And they have aircons. The beach is just few steps away,in the evening you'll find sea turtles nestling by the shore and the resort's garden. The resort provides 1 bottle of water,juice,1L milk, toastbread, butter and eggs as complimentary on your arrival.Shops are quite far,so you need to hire a car or get the bus to the nearest village or direct to Victoria. The barbeque grill is complimentary but you need to pay for the charcoal which is only 15 SCR.

Chalet d'Anse Forbans: Excellent Self-Catering Chalets
  • Tip Rating:
  • Updated By ChrisAmirault on December 8, 2002
  • The Chalet d'Anse Forbans was a fantastic place. Brigitte Laporte, her dad Emmanuel, and her brother Jean-Pierre were all amazingly helpful. They had great places to stay, took care of laundry, did a start-up shopping trip, arranged for cars, hotels on Praslin, and boat excursions -- in short, they took care of us in every way. They are warm, caring, smart, friendly, thoughtful people who will really work hard on your behalf before and during your stay.

The chalets are located on land that had been a coconut plantation, and there are still lots of palms on the land that drop a few coconuts on the grass each day. (You can learn how to husk and open them; we made a wonderful fish curry with them and snacked on the coconut meat for the duration of the stay.) The area is nestled in the granite hills of the south coast, and while the sunrises (the beach faces the east) are spectacular, dusk brings an incredible exodus of huge fruit bats out of the hills down into the tree groves that I, in particular, found amazing.

We stayed in one of the smaller chalets, which had a small living room, a combo kitchen/dining area, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a small porch (with a table and chairs). The bedroom had an excellent air conditioner that we came to adore; the Seychelles are incredibly humid, and being able to go in that room and cool off any time was a huge plus. The kitchen was well-outfitted with equipment, though we were very glad that we brought a pair of good knives, and we were able to buy cooking basics to use for the duration of the vacation.

I should add that all of the hotels and resorts we checked out (and we saw several of them on Mahe especially) were terrifically disappointing. They seemed empty and boring and isolated; the food sucked and was over-priced; the main people you seemed to spend your time with were sunburned Germans and Italians sitting by -- of all things -- the hotel pool. Why people pay two, three, or four times the rates at Chalet d'Anse Forbans to stay in such hell holes is beyond us.

The chalets are all within a thirty second walk to the beach itself (Anse Forbans), which is just about as far south as you can get on the island before the main road turns west. The beach there extends very far out to a rocky point to the south; to the north, the beach extends to another, smaller rocky point, just a breakwater, beyond which lies another beach in front of the Allemanda Hotel. We walked out to that beach a dozen times a day, and there were never more than eight folks on the beach; many times we were the only people there.

The beach is really fantastic. The water is incredibly clear and warm, and there are areas where you can walk on the sand and swim off to the left of the beach. Throughout the beach area (and especially off to the left) there are amazing coral areas with lots of anemones, sea cucumbers, dozens of fish, moray eels, even an octopus and two sand sharks. We brought our own masks and snorkels; the folks at the hotel have fins you can borrow if you don't want to bring them. I was a novice, so I'm not sure how good my opinion is, but I loved it. I snorkeled for at least an hour twice a day, rain or shine, and would have done more if I wasn't worried about broiling my back!

We enjoyed our stay here, very peaceful!Very authentic and secluded! There's no aircon, that's the major problem. But we are told that they will build this year including telephone in each chalet, a restaurant and a pool. You might be very far from the shops, but hire a car, even just for a day and get all the things you need.Or walk to the nearest village, Cote d' Or,takes about 20-30 minutes walk to get there and you'll find plenty shops. The resort also provides barbeque grill but I just wish it's complimentary, but no,we had to pay 10 Euro for the rent.So if you don't have much luggage, maybe you can bring your own portable grill;).

Ilse Des Palmes "Pirates Cove" chalets are great for honeymooners because of the seclusion. The staff are very friendly & helpful, but the chalets are situated a bit too far from the shops to be the best venue for a self catering holiday.

The staff clean your room and wash the dishes everyday, as well as supply fresh towels & toilet rolls. The area has an abundance of beautiful sea life and some very attractive beaches that you can only get to via kayaks which you can hire from Ilse Des Palmes.

No mass tourism, but genuine hospitality is practized here. The guesthouse is situated near the little harbour (about 1 1/2 mins. by bike) and set back from the sea, nestled amongst the gardens of La Passe. At this idyllic place you are never far from the quiet bustle of the village, while it's a relaxing place to have a beer in the garden or on the terrace. By bike, the whole island is within easy reach from here.

The 4 double rooms have been recently renovated, each with their own bathroom and simple, but clean, spacious and cosy. There is no air conditioning, but there are fans in every room.

In the common kitchen there are cooking facilities available as well as a fridge.

What makes the stay so special, however, is Marie-Anne: she is a markedly friendly, hospitable and happy person. Her smiles are contagious and the food she's serving every evening has her guests raving for a long time after. Yummy! Bring a good appetite for fish, like everywhere on the Seychelles. ;-)

Mary-Anne speaks good English, French, Creol and a little German.

We stayed at the Anse Soleil Beachcomber for the first week of our trip - the road down to the hotel is very bad but don't worry the hotel itself has the most wonderful location on a really beautiful beach (Anse Soleil) which is quiet and has some wonderful snorkelling around the rocks. The woman who runs the hotel is very nice and helpful as were the hotel staff. Our room was basic but comfortable with a fridge and air con but had a lovely verandah area which was almost on the beach.

A very quiet hotel run by locals. Minutes away from Anse Source d'Argent. The Island is soo small that it's actually close to every place.

We stayed in this place twice (in 2004 and 2005). Last time we visited La Digue I asked Jennita (a receptionist) if it is possible to get some papayas to bring home and she said - she'll ask gardener to get some for us. Imagine how surprised we were on returning home from another day trip around La Digue instead of couple papayas to see a large box of them at home. :)

  • Patatran + beach from the sea - Seychelles
Patatran + beach from the sea
    by Saagar
At the La Passe jetty as you arrive, there are ox carts ready to take you to Patatran. Or taxi. With small children and lots of luggage it's too long to walk. The cart can't go all the way, due to the road (can't turn) so you have to take your luggage yourself the last hundred meters .
Patatran itself isn't that much of a place for children, because the beach here is not sheltered by a reef, and there are limited play areas nearby. Staying unsupervised/alone on the beach here is not an option. But there are beaches nearby (walking distance) back toward La Passe and further past Patatran where the water is sheltered and shallow. Very nice, in fact. To get to the other beaches you will need to taxi, ox-cart your way or bike.
Patatran is worth less than what you pay for (in international comparison), but among the options here, this is what you get. Friendly service, very relaxed, too. I was happy about it, let me hasten to add. The rooms were well cared for and the bathroom fine. A valuables storage in the reception safe, good, as the rooms aren't too secure. Romantic beds... Bike rental adjacent to the reception area. Many services offered via the reception and general tourist office in La Passe. Cheaper to organise the things yourself, but definitely more cumbersome. BB option here is all right, you may not wish to be stuck here for lunch and dinners, too. The food gets a bit too generic. But they do ok for other meals than breakfasts also, some goodies on their a la carte and once a week island foods buffet. They can make you a picnic basket. I opted for the supermarket a little past the "centre" of La Passe. Juices, water, bisuits, fruits for the beach and evenings. We went as far as purchasing a hot water cooker for our own teas and coffees as Patatran's kitchen/bar didn't keep open very long, and it was very enjoyable sitting up late playing cards on the little bungalow verandah and letting the day come to an end. We gave this boiler to Patatran for other guests' perusal when we left.
