Victoria ? a capital between mountain and ocean by Muya
One of the smallest and most expensive capitals of the world. With its 27 000 inhabitants, Victoria contains one third of the entire Seychelles population. Just stroll along its streets, and immerse yourself in the colorful atmosphere and the cultural richness of the population of this particular little town living at the pace of the islands. Pay a visit to the Zonm Lib Monument (= hommes libres in French, free men), representing a man breaking his chains, symbol of freedom after two centuries of colonialism, and then go refresh yourself in the Pirates Arms, have a drink or a meal among the locals. Then go down Francis Rachel Street, and have a look at the Clock Tower, standing next to the one and only traffic lights of the archipelago, between Albert Street and Revolution Avenue. The silvery tower, Lorloz, as they call it in creole, was build in 1903 as a memorial to Queen Victoria.
This little really seemed peaceful to me. People live at their own rhythm, Pa twakase, napa problem (don?t worry, no problem), as the people say? and it?s so true !
