Mountain Biking in the Cederberg

by blikoor

Can one use the hiking trails in the Cederberg to do mountain biking or do one have to stay on the main gravel roads?

Re: Mountain Biking in the Cederberg

A number of the farms have put together 4x4 trails. These are good for mountain biking. There are also farm roads and forestry roads that you can cycle on. Just find out where you can and can't go as most of the land is privately owned.

Travel Tips for Cederberg

Coping with too many Digital Photos

by kenHuocj

Cederberg offers so many opprontunities to click away,
whilst waiting for Luanne and the Ceonservancy man to return
from the hike up the Cracks and to the Arch.
beofre and after i saw the moving sun create
so many variations to the weathered rock faces.

using Zoomorama, one has free storage of the big MBs
here is my Cederberg multi photo page link being with Nature.
for the hike up along the paths and rocks,
we need to be fit
with strong knees too.

South Africa has and is undergoing changes,
that is since the "democratic" elections in April 27th 1994
and subsequent change of power
There have been changes, in who is who and what is what

SO to get a guide for our planned hike up to the Wolfberg Arch
fully aware of my own limitations,
I contacted the Cederberg Conservancy via
Cape Nature Conservation Board
PO Box 356, Clanwilliam 8135
Bookings:Tel: (022) 931 2088 Fax: (022) 931 2913

As we were on the gravel road after the turnoff from N7
Cell phone message came in from our referred guide.

Cedeberg - South Africa’s Highest Winery

by kenHuocj

Google Map of Cederberg Private Cellar South Africa’s highest winery at 1000m Above sea level, where the unique cool continental climate of the high-growing vineyards is ideal for the production of Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. This terroir is also perfect for the slow ripening red cultivars like Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

2006 Veritas DOUBLE GOLD - CEDERBERG SHIRAZ
Winemaker David Nieuwoudt describes this wine as unique in that "it contains all the elements of a top Shiraz in one glass".
2006 Veritas DOUBLE GOLD - FIVE GENERATIONS CHENIN BLANC
Delicate floral and honeyed whispers. Lime with some biscuit aromas. A fat juicy palate, fragrant rich in ripe oaky / lees character. Full length with good acid backbone. Concentrated, structured for longevity.

"Have visited, will be back"

Oh dear, have not done much homework to add into the pages
to be useful for future travellers to the area

just managed to get onto Zoomorama - allows you to view many photos;
to add my Photo Page of day up to Wolfberg Crack Base by me
and the other to the Wolberg Arch by Luanne

"WAS at Heathrow Airport
waiting for my flight to JoBurg
then a Mango flight to Cape Town,
3 hours drive via Tygervalley Mall
and Cederberg Winery
then Starwatching,

then more Rock Art "

"an information board"

Useful for those visiting the Cederberg Valley, one leave paved roads for Gravel, which was in excellent condition,
need to go over nieuwoudt Pass before one sees the Jamaka Far msign board

"en route to the Wolfberg Arch"

Wonderful isolation!

by londonbabe

The Cederberg Wilderness, about 150 miles north of Cape Town, is a wonderful blend of scenery, wildlife and history.
We stayed at the Mount Cedar resort - a handful of cabins scattered through the hills, beside a river with swimming places. The picture shows our view from the cabin deck, complete with a bottle of white from the local vineyard.
