Bucaneers: The BEST hostel in world ever!


This hostel is known on the backpackers circuit in South Africa and beyond as "The PLACE to go". We decided that we did not want to spend Christmas anywhere else but here, and so when we were late booking and they had no rooms left, we were not suprised - just disapointed.
Shocked was not the word, when a cancellation appeared and they could accommodate us!
We were absolutley delighted - and it turned out to be a brilliant Crimbo.


Unique Quality:
Buccaneers is a backpackers, it is budget accommodation. And the reason that everyone says that it is so great, isn't because the rooms are super comfy and luxurious - it's because of the atmosphere of the place, go with this in mind and like us you will have the best time ever!

The whole complex is located in secluded grounds, which does feel like you are staying in the jungle, it is a pleasant walk along the river to the beach - which is magnificent.
When darkness falls, people tend to congregate in the house where delicious meals are served, or in the bar (which over Xmas 05 was a very happening place to be)!

Activities are held every day, themed meal nights are held in the house.
They do have kitchens in each building of accommodation so you can cook for yourself too.

Over Xmas, they held a xmas dinner on xmas eve and there was a huge party, xmas day morning we all had champers and egg rolls around the pool, the day then was chilled out, before we all got together for a brai (bbq) in the evening.

The staff here are superb - the Price Family are the best and have made this such a cracking place, Kate who worked here Xmas 05 was brilliant too!

Bucanneers Backpackers: The one and only...Bucanneers

It needs no introduction! If you havent heard of it before oyu get to South Africa, you will once you hit the backpacker trail. It has room for around 80 people including camping. The staff are fantastic, so enthusiastic and theres always something to do! Set 5 minutes from the beach, up on a hill with great views of the sea and beach! Theres a bar open until the last person leaves(in peak season, usually around 4am), a pool, as ,many activities as you can imagine. Activities include : boogie boardind, kite surfing, normal surfing, game drives in the next door Inkwenkwezi private game reserve, a one day or 4 day transkei tour, paintballing, beach games, cricket, volleyball.

Unique Quality: The game reserve next door, has 4000 hectares, it has giraffe, zebra, wildebeast, lion, rhino, antelope. Its about a 4 hr game drive.
The trasnkei tour takes you through locals communities and villages, to a ship wreck along the rugged coastline, on a small boat to a waterfall where you can jump off rocks into the water. It costs 235rand.
