Five star experience

Staying in Franschhoek is special, but even more so at this great hotel.
The hotel is about 2km out of the village. The natural beauty surrounding the hotel is magnificent.
Service, food, rooms - great.

I would reccomend this hotel anytime.

Very nice but lacks atmosphere

Le Franschhoek is one of the most expensive options and has all the facilities you would expect from a 5 star hotel. However, I thought the room was functional rather than cosy. Service in the hotel was OK, but not perfect. The food was good, but then anything less would not survive in this town. The pool area was small an there were nowhere near enough beds etc for a hotel of this size. I think they are building another pool area, but I maybe wrong.

Unique Quality: Just a short ride from the centre of town and some great views.

Luxury Accommodations in Wine Country

First thing to note is that this hotel should not be confused with the Franschhoek Inn or Le Quartier Francois which are located in downtown Franschhoek.

The 63 room hotel was opened in September 2005 and is the latest in the Three Cities Hotels Group's Cape Resort collection. There are only three levels and no elevator. The rooms are gorgeous though- ours had a high thatched ceiling and a large bathroom.

The hotel is located on the site of one of Franschhoek's original country retreats, and many locals told us that they used to visit the retreat with their families as children. Features include a destination Camelot Spa (we got to try out some of these facilies), a ball-room and conference rooms, tennis and bicycling to wine farms in the surrounding vineyards.

Unique Quality: Included in Le Franschhoek Hotel and Spa’s many accolades are

• 2007 AA Travel Guide – Gold Achiever
• Conde Naste's top 130 New Hotels of the world - 2006 Hot List
• Diner’s Club Award – 2006 Wine List

The continental breakfast (which is included with the room) is anything but- it was wonderful. An omelet station, cereals, fresh fruit and lots of pastries. A wonderful way to start off a day of wine tasting.

The conceirge was also every so helpful- from arranging last minute spa and dinner appointments to helping to schedule a guide for a day of wine tasting.

Beautiful

We had just one night here so didnt get to see much of the hotel or area but what I did see was just lovely. The rooms are a good size and come with the usual dressing gowns, slippers, tea & coffee ( the coffee is proper perculated not freezedried!) Its a good standard of accomodation and I'd certainly recommend it. The breakfast was nice and it has a cute restaurant that opens in their summer which is basicly individual greenhouses that you dine in, shame I was there at the wrong time of year! The hotel has lovely garden views.

The only problem we had was that when you showered it flooded the bathroom - not what you would expect from a hotel of this standard.

Unique Quality: The dining room as described above.
