Romeo and Juliett: A Better Alternative
Avoid Stellenbosch and Stay in Franschoek! While Stellenbosch can be a bit bland, I strongly reccommend driving another 20 minutes to Franschoek, a small town outside of Stellenbosch, and staying in this beautiful, sleepy wine town.
Franschoek is South Africa done right! A small town with multiple vineyards walking distance from the city center, this place is absolutely amazing. In particular, the Romeo and Juliet Hotel is an enchanting place to stay, located in the "downtown" area.
If you are looking for an interesting experience in South Africa, take a chance and avoid Stellenbosch and make a visit to Franschoek! You'll also save a couple bucks!
A quaint hotel located in downtown Franschoek.

The Garden House: Like staying in a (rich) friend's home
OK I can't really comment on exactly what it's like to stay here, because the Garden Room, whcih is the place you normally stay, was already taken so Annette gave us HER bedroom. Not quite sure Barry was so keen on having to sleep in the spare room for us, but he was still charm personified.
Annette organises a great breakfast of fruits, croissants, toast, smoked trout and cheeses, whilst Barry is in charge of organising extras such as the mountain bikes. If you do borrow the bikes, he thoughtfully puts a couple of bottles of water in the fridge for you to take as well.
The pool is set in the middle of a perfect English cottage garden, only with weaver birds and chameleons.
It is a marvellous house, in a marvellous setting in a marvellous town. Something very special indeed, as are Annette and Barry.
