The Full Moon Bush Camp: Livin' it up African style!
We stayed in this African Bush camp on our second visit to South Africa--wow! Beautiful thatched huts, an open communal cooking area, and a great big pool smack in the middle of nowhere for those hot, hot, hot African summers.
Unique Quality: Aiming for a more comfortable bush camp experience, there are quaint little thatched cabins with a communal kitchen, shared showers, a swimming pool, and what they call a "honeymoon en-suite penthouse". See their website for more info.

The Porcupine Room: A quiet, relaxing little B&B on a huge property
We stayed in this little room for the first night of our visit and liked it so much we stayed again before our departure!
It has a private bathroom, lots of space and a big set of glass doors looking out onto the Otter's Haunt property. It has its own kitchenette but we didn't use it.
The people who run Otter's Haunt really have their act together--in addition to this excellent B&B, they have a rental house beside the Vaal river (with its own swimming pool), a second B&B on an adjacent farm, and a full-featured bush camp with thatched cabins and a swimming pool that looks to be spectacular (see our other tip for the bush camp below).
Unique Quality: Only a few yards away from the river's edge, lots of big shady trees, and African birdlife.
We had time for a bike ride, a hike, and even a short canoe trip downriver. Wow!
