This modern hotel is situated in the heart of Sandton, the exclusive residential and business area north of Johannesburg. It is conveniently located for business travellers, tourists and airline crews, and is only 25 km from Johannesburg International Airport.
The hotel is within close walking distance of Sandton City, Sandton Square and Village Walk, South Africa's exclusive shopping complexes with their vast selection of restaurants, designer boutiques, entertainment centres, banks and restaurants.
Set in an attractive, landscaped garden with an outdoor swimming pool, the hotel provides an informal atmosphere which is combined with efficient service. The Breakfast Room serves a light or full buffet breakfast, and McGinty's Irish Pub & Grill is the perfect spot for a pub lunch or dinner.
Well the pool area is quiet excellent .... No time to do any swimming cause basically early in the morning we were up and about and we returned late.
Well I have got family living here so we were always invited for dinner as well. I arrived at the airport, just one call and they picked me up. Half an hour and I was at the hostel.
The hostel is situated in one of the safest part of Jo'burgh, near the Rosebank Mall.
There are a lot of facilities: a big beatiful garden, a swimming pool, a bar, a recreation room, an internet point available 24 hours, a nice viewpoijnt on the city and an office of the Africa Centre, which provide a lot of tours, such as the City Tour, Pretoria, Soweto, Gold Reef City and so on.
When I was there the Pretoria tour was cancelled due to the elections: well, they gave me the money back without a problem and I made another trip.
There are also a lot of rooms, from cheap dormitories to doubles and singles; the bathrooms are shared.
You can have breakfast and dinner, but for the last they provide just one meal so, if you want, you can cook for yourself. You have to wash your dishes, as in any other hostel.
The bar open at 8PM, it's a cool place where take a beer, talk, meet new people.
If you want to relax you can sit in the TV room with other people and watch some south african programs, talking with the other guest about their travel experience.
This place is really unique, the staff is very helpful and nice (especially Gavin and Leroy) and there you can meet people from all over the world; definitely a friendly atmosphere.
Don't hesitate to ask something to the staff, they will help you without any problem.
Take time to join the tours of the Africa centre, they worth the price without a doubt.
The hostel is also in a safe quarter so you can go out even alone (and it's not that easy in Johannesburgh) and take a walk.
