Across from Nelson Mandela Square

Stayed three weeks on a combo work/Leisure visit. Although it can be a bit pricey, it's best to negotiate the rates well in advance. However the location is ideal for exploring the Joburg area. Security is very good, great included breakfast and 24 hour cofffee. Parking is free, well lit and very secure with security personnel everywhere. The hotel hosts a bar called the Maude Cafe and we found the food to be trendy and well prepared but not overpriced. Very nice place to meet Ex Pats but beware of the ladies across the street above the wall overlooking the cafe as they scope out customers from this vantage point. One must be cautious in Joburg but traveling in a group of 4 we never felt threatened. The three weeks we were there we saw many sports teams and groups of seniors pass through.

Unique Quality: The garden courtyard is very pleasent with tables located as islands withn the grassy lawn and bountiful plants, shrubs and trees. It has a saltwater pool that although not huge is 1.9 meters deep and well maintained. Pool side service is very good. Nice fitness center and very helpful and friendly staff. Rooms are not the most extravagant but were clean, quiet and not lacking in any ammenities.

It's located across from the N Mandela square which hosts a great number of fine dining around the square and huge shopping mall. In the square we tried many of the restaurants and found we liked Trumps the best. The fillets were always done as ordered, protions huge and good selection of SA wines.

Garden Court Sandton

Nice hotel close to Sandton Mall. You need the hotel shuttle or a taxi t go, even if the Mall is at a short walking distance. In this area, it is not safe to walk outside.

Close to Sandton city

You are almost in the garden of the most famous shopping centre of Johannesburg, just have to cross the street.
Facilities are like in all Holiday Inns,
As a lot of hotels in South Africa, you can enjoy a lot of differents foods, Indian, European, American, Chinese, vegetarian, etc.
Breakfast buffet is particularly well done.

Unique Quality: The central location.

If you enter this hotel after 10PM, the gate is fully of money girls who harass you under the eyes of the guards who say nothing. That is a pity to have this in such an hotel.

My wife and I stayed there for two nights last week. She relaxed by the pool and used the gym while I attended a conference at the Convention Centre next door. We both enjoyed the hotel, the location is great if you want to be in Sandton - one block from the Sandton City Mall and just across the street from Nelson Mandela square, which has several good restaurants with patios on the square.

Rooms were standard but clean. There is no in-room safe unfortunately. The hotel restaurant has good food, but slow service on the night we were there. I would recommend the hotel.

Also note that there is a "Garden Court Sandton" located a few blocks from the "Garden Court Sandton City". We stayed at the latter (Sandton City). We heard that the former is perhaps a little more rundown, and not quite so convenient for restaurants, etc.

Just make sure you book the right one!
