Re: distance

by Gillybob

Goldreef City is in one of Johannesburg's suburbs. Depending on where you are staying, drive should take around 30 - 45 minutes.

Gold Reef city is basically in Johannesburg. It is 5 minutes drive from the centre of the City.....Sun City, which is our biggest casino resort is 140 kilos from Johannesburg, and an hour and a halfs drive. Hope you enjoy your stay

Travel Tips for Johannesburg

Which payment method is best?

by Jenniflower

Try and only carry the cash you will need with you for the day, or else have plastic handy.

This is in the unlikely event that you lose money or it is 'lifted' from you!

Travellers cheques are used widely throughout South Africa, as are credit cards.

Golf

Golfing
The Bryanston Country Club
Situated on Bryanston Drive, in Bryanston, Johannesburg Northern Suburbs. Equipment is available from most golf clubs in South Africa.
The Pro shop also has professional golfers on sight for lessons.
Caddies are always available as well as golf buggies.

Dry food

by Alpha_Ghana about Biltong

When the first Boers came to South Africa, they had to find a way to preserve food for long distance journeys.
They made Biltong, first with meet. They fully dry meet, so that they can keep it for years.
You can also apply this technic to other food like fruits and vegetables.
I like particularly the bush meet in Biltong.

Buy it in town, maybe in supermarkets, because at the airport, it is not the best quality and it is very expensive

Plane. South Africa is a big...

by arzauk

Plane. South Africa is a big country (it takes 14 hours or more to drive from Cape Town, about 6 from Durban, and 5 from the Kruger Park)
If you can, take a shuttle to your hotel (if they have one). Otherwise, if you can afford it, catch a taxi. The airport Bus go to the main train station (in Braamfontein), but public transport is almost non-existante, so you'll have to catch a taxi eventually.
Avoid minitaxis (those minibuses from hell overloaded and falling to pieces).
Taxis don't circulate freely; you have to order one on the phone.
Buses run in a radial grid to town centre and outwards. They run every 10 minutes on peak hour, every hour during the day, and not at all at night.

Best option: rent a car. Driving is on the left hand side of the road, like in the UK, and SA drivers drive VERY fast (forget about speed limits here, although they are a few speed cameras and the odd traffic cop around Xmas)

Ocean Basket

I`m not fond of dining at the food court in any shopping mall in the world,,but this small restaurant is certainly diffirent.
It serves freshly made dishes, big portions, with affordable prices.I didnt take any pictures of the place though I dined there twice in 6 days!!( I guess was too busy eating:-) The fried calamary served with mixed fried rice.
The picture here shows the square at Sandton.
