Pembury Plaza Hotel, Johannesburg, South Africa - Reviews and Hotel Information

I stayed overnight here having returned from Kruger National Park and before heading on to Cape Town in November 2007. After a long drive based from KNP somewhere comfortable and convenient was definitely the order of the day. It was convenient for heading out with friends for a night out, but would not be classed as the most convenient hotel if you need somewhere close to the airport. Taxis were ZAR 280 to Oliver Tambo Airport - and take about 30-45 minutes depending on traffic and roadworks.

The room was adequately furnished - a comfortable bed was the most important thing and there were tea and coffee making facilities and a TV with a good range of channels in the room. The cooked breakfast and breakfast buffet were more than adequate - I didn't need lunch after that one!

As with most places in South Africa, you do not go out on foot after dark, and there was a lot of street corner prostitution around the area - apparently on the rise in this part of Johannesburg. However, for a one night stopover it was perfectly adequate without leaving a massive dent in my credit card bill.

It is just another motel - nothing to write home about but I felt secure in what was a relatively cheap hotel
