Affordable and adequate enough
I stayed overnight here having returned from Kruger National Park and before heading on to Cape Town in November 2007. After a long drive based from KNP somewhere comfortable and convenient was definitely the order of the day. It was convenient for heading out with friends for a night out, but would not be classed as the most convenient hotel if you need somewhere close to the airport. Taxis were ZAR 280 to Oliver Tambo Airport - and take about 30-45 minutes depending on traffic and roadworks.
The room was adequately furnished - a comfortable bed was the most important thing and there were tea and coffee making facilities and a TV with a good range of channels in the room. The cooked breakfast and breakfast buffet were more than adequate - I didn't need lunch after that one!
As with most places in South Africa, you do not go out on foot after dark, and there was a lot of street corner prostitution around the area - apparently on the rise in this part of Johannesburg. However, for a one night stopover it was perfectly adequate without leaving a massive dent in my credit card bill.
Unique Quality: It is just another motel - nothing to write home about but I felt secure in what was a relatively cheap hotel

Pemsbury, former Park Plaza
It just changed the name a couple of weeks ago (as of Dec 21,2006) Ideally located just 5 minutes walk to Mandela Square, Downtown Sandton. The hotel is significantly cheaper than all the others in the same area. The rooms are basic, but very clean. Including a bean-shape swimming pool, balcony restaurant, convenient carpark and tour-booking service. The staffs are friendly and helpful. I really had a pleasant stay.

Affordable in a very safe area
Our stay at Park Plaza was nice...Staffs are friendly...
We didn't have time to explore the entire hotel but we saw the pool but it was too cold too swim that time...
I would like to recommend this hotel to people who are looking for an accomodation in a safe area....where the Sandton City is just a 5 min wallk..
Unique Quality: Sandton Area is a new CBD....you'll find the Sandton City just 5 min from the Park Plaza... it is a very nice hotel but very affordable at the same time...
