Airport shuttle to Sun City

by welshwanderer

Just want to know the best/cheapest way to get from Joburg airport to Sun City. There will be 16 of us arriving on the 24th of June and it'll be the first time to S Africa. Are therenany shuttle buses that run from the airport or would we need to get in a taxi? please advise

Also, does anyone know if there are any afternoon public buses going from Sun City to Pretoria or is another method of transport more suitable for 16 of us?

Any advice is a great help so thanks in advance :-)

If all 16 are in the same hotel, I would contact your hotel to organize it.

Are you going anywhere else in South Africa?

Going to watch the rugby for the Lion Tour so will not be going anywhere else really, unless we decide something when we get there.

So do you know if there is a shuttle service from the airport?

I'm sorry I don't know. I just asked because I wouldn't want you to think Sun City was in any way like the rest of South Africa.

What time is your arrival in Joburg? There are 17 of us from Wales arriving after midday and we are also trying to find out how we get to Sun ity, and then from Sun City to Pretoria for the 2nd test. So if you do find out please let me know.

Travel Tips for Johannesburg

Where to get a nice haircut

by dln6874

If you're looking for a nice place to get a haircut, go to Terenzo in Melville (tel: 482 2566). It's in a trendy part of the city so they've gotta be good.

For an equivalent of about US$20, I got shampoo, head massage, great cut, and a blow.

Ellis Park

by MikeAtSea

This is the main Rugby Stadium of the country, many international and regional matches are played here. South Africa won its first international Rugby title here just after the country was re-admitted to international sport in 1995, beating New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup Final.

Street markets and stalls

by crazyguitar about In all main roads

It´s plenty of stands and street markets in all the main roads. You can buy excellent local craft. Bargaining is very common and sometimes can be tedious but on the other hand you can get very good prices and make new friends.
Usually you have to pay in cash.
The best market was near Harbeesport Dam, in the first village after Harbeesport coming from Pretoria, but I´m not able to remember the name.

Left luggage facility at OR Tambo airport

by CatherineReichardt

To the relief of travellers who are passing through Johannesburg for a short period on business or pleasure, but don't necessarily want to lug all their baggage with them, consider using the left luggage facility at OR Tambo airport.
This facility is open between 06:00 and 22:00 and is hidden away by the escalators which link the terminal buildings to the underground parking area. I have yet to see a sign indicating its presence (let alone location) so it's handy to know where to look!
The cost per item of luggage at the time of writing (June 2010) was R50 for the first day, and R40 for each day thereafter - a small price to pay for the freedom of not having to lug around unnecessary luggage!

by Rasta_Rob about Nando's

Although this is a fast food chain restaurant, it is authentically South African, and the food is awesome. Be prepared to drink lots of water - that Peri-Peri will set your mouth on fire! Hot Peri-Peri Chicken
