Pretoria 1ste time

by zkeeennie

Hello nice people on this forum

Together with 2 friends we (belgian) will go to Pretoria to do an internship in the university of Pretoria. We don't reallly know that much about Pretoria and would like to know following thingies:
Safety: I heard there that it's not that safe there, is it? Or is it like in any great city such as London, paris,..
Living: Is the living cheap. How much do you pay for things such as food, beverage and most important transportation.

What would you recommend us after our internship. What city should we go to next. In south africa ofcourse and within a certain budget. What are the possibilities.

If you know anything else please let me know.

I appreciate your help.

Cheers,

A nice guy giving greetzzz from Belgium...

Kenny, like many large cities around the world everyone has to look after their own safety wherever you go,Pretoria is one of these cities,we call it Jakaranda stad in Afrikaans as it is also got many Jacaranda tree's in and around the city and it looks beautiful when in bloom.

As for food and beverages ,the prices ar ecomparitevly cheap depending on what you purchase and where at.

Most places in and around Pretoria are reasonable and suit the pocket, transport in and around the city should not be a problem neither, plentiful and cheap.

Come over and enjoy your stay.

PEE-WEE,
^_^

Well I don`t know too much about Pretoria , been there a few times but I guess Pee Wee is your man when it comes to PTA. I live in JNB which is close to Pretoria. Been to Cape Town and the Garden Route which is not to bad and not a very costly trip provided where you stay and so forth. I`ve also been to Mpumalanga "the Kruger National , Blyde River Canon and so on" , its not that far from Pretoria and should be ok on the pocket.

Hi there,

As far as cheapness goes, the exchange rate is favourable for you, so South Africa is a good place to holiday... that does of course depend on what you type of accommodation you want and where you buy.

There are some super B&B's I have stayed at in Pretoria, I opt for these not hotels. Afrikaner hospitality at its best at these places.

Have a lovely time!

The Garden Safari with a difference

by Bushman23

Safari garden Center is amazing. I went there with a couple of my friends to have a look see, and ended up spending almost a full day there. They have an excellent outdoor Cafe & Bar, conference facilities, wonderful scenic walkways... and of course, lots of plants!

See my travelogue for more pictures & stuff!

CHURCH SQUARE

by CharleneP

That is not really a MUST SEE, but if you're in town and like old buildings and history you can have a look at Church Square. It is in the heart of the city around which the first settlements developed. Church Street runs through the square. In the middle of the square is the President Kruger statue.

Pretoria Art Museum

by CharleneP

You can visit the Art Museum in Pretoria. There are a collection of more than 5000 works of art. Visitors have the opportunity to buy curios, African art works, sculptures, postcards, T-shirts and many more crafts at the Museum Shop.
