Hi. My husband, like many other posters, has been offered a relocation package to SA. His commute will be to JHB but we are focusing our accomodation search in Pretoria. We have one small child (2 years old).
We have been warmly recomanded on silver lakes reserve.(i did not see anybody mention this nieghborhood in previous questions in the forum).
I looked it up in the net (http://www.silverlakes.co.za/)looks beautiful,
But dont know if it Is a suitable neighborhood for a young family such as ourselves?
Any recommendations for day-care centers for our toddler? This may be our anchor which will affect our chosen location.
Many thanks in advance for any help.
I didn't even know about it. I looked at the website. Golf estates are normally very upmarket and expensive. It looks stunning. If your husband will work in JHB it will be quite a bit of travelling for him on a very busy highway. why don't you e-mail the estate to find out if they don't have a day-care facility in the estate. They should also be able to tell you how many young couples with children there are.
The area is great and the estate looks excellent. The travelling to JHB might be your biggest problem.
Many thanks for your advice.
following it I have already sent the estate an email with farther qustions.
The location of my hubbys work is Midrand which i understand is located between Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Thanks again for taking the time to help us.
N
Location fine if Midrand, not Johannesburg. The estate looks lovely - and as Cleocat says, they may very well offer a child care facility. Have they replied to your request yet?
Midrand is better. The highways are all quite busy but the worst one is the one between JHB and Pretoria.

TSWAING METEORITE CRATER
A metreorite impact some 220 000 years ago
formed a huge crater, 1,4 km in diameter and
200 m deep.
This Crater is 40 km northwest of Pretoria,
one of the best-preserved meteorite impact craters
anywhere in the world.
TSWAING means Place of Salt in Setswana,
referring to a saline lake that covers
the crater
floor.
Besides the crater, ia an extensive
wetland system;
with a large variety of plant species,
typical of the Sourish-Mixed Bushveld;
wildlife, includes the
240-odd species of birds found in this area.
The drive takes you past a series of intersting
landmarks and housing of vatious levels.
Withing the area, the Tswaing project has
invited community participation in its
planning and development.
Local communities have already been
benefiting from the museum project through
job creation, skills training,
environmental education, income-generating
projects and tourism
( I hope SUSTAINABLE TOURISM ....K).
A Tswaing travelogue is coming ;-)))
The Voortrekker Monument was built as a national shrine to commemorate the heroes of the Great Trek of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The four walls of the Hall of Heroes, which is the main body of the building, are decorated with an Italian frieze depicting the history of the Great Trek in 1838, when Afrikaaners left Cape Town for the hinterland. One of the most interesting features of the monument is the 260-step stairway which leads to the dome, and the spectacular view it offers of the city.
the local rugby cup final is being played tomorrow and my team the blue bulls are playing the free state , we have only lost one game this season and that they can thank the ref for we lost by 1 piont and it was the ref`s bad decision at the end of the game that gave them the 3 pionts to win by 1 but we cant win them all but tomorrow we will and make it three years in a row .......
This museum is still in development. One of the outstanding exhibitions, would be the art gallery. It has works of various South African arstists, including paintings and sculptures. Some works of Pierneef is on display.
Another part focusses on Marabastad, a part of Pretoria City, and the impact apartheid had.
A craft section displays 12 different crafts by women of South Afica over a time period.
It is a small museum and will take only 1 - 2 hours to visit.
It has a good museum shop with quality items on sale. It also has a restaurant.
