Hotel Info

by swilliams692000

Can anyone provide an assessment of the Arcadia Hotel in Pretoria? Their room rates are good and it seems to be in a reasonably safe area close to the sights in town. I will be visiting Pretoria in January 2004. Thanks.

I never stayed there. The area is a bit run down the last few years. It is however still ok.My recommendations would be stay a a guest house rent a car and drive everywhere.Transportation you will find is a problem here. The roads are still in a good condition, and you can stop everywhere.

Enjoy your holiday here,South Africa is a great place with nice and sincere people.Meet the locals they are very open and friendly people

Pretoria Zoo

by paradisedreamer

The zoo in Pretoria is one of the best in the world (if you like zoos). Personally I am not a big fan of zoos, if you want to see animals go and find them in their natural habitat. The pens are very big here and therefore so is the zoo so put your walking shoes on. There are also golf carts for hire at a very reasonable rate.

Freedom Park (Part 2 - 2008)

by PierreZA

This museum is now partly finished and is open for visiting. It is one of the better experiences on offer in Pretoria. The area covered is quite big. It is very well designed, with some outstanding features. There are walls of rememberance, an eternal flame (in a bed of water), It is also described as 'A mirror image of the nation's historical consciousness'.
It is best to take a guided tour, as it gives much more understanding of the symbolism depicted in so many of the feautures. The Park should be completed at the end of 2009. At this stage, entrance is free! This Park is not just about the struggle against apartheid, but it is about the complete history of South Africa.

Irene Village: Dairy Farm

by PierreZA

Irene Dairy Farm is a very popular place to visits, especially during weekends. It is situated in the very beautiful suburb of Irene.
Sunday buffet breakfasts and lunches are very popular at Irene farm, and it is advised to book before hand to avoid a wait or disappointment.
It is a great family outing, as there is a lot to do for kids.
They farm also have a very good deli, where many wonderful food can be bought.
