Where to stay?

by renzo1981

Hi,

I am heading to Pretoria for the upcoming World Cup. Where would you say is a nice, relatively safe location that has a good nightlife (Bars, restaurants, pubs). I am married so I am not looking to go wild, we just want to be somewhere which is safe enough (but not boring), and also be able to have a good night out.

Thanks!

Re: Where to stay?

In Pretoria I would either stay in Hatfield, which is the nightlife centre of Pretoria, and is within walking distance of Loftus Versveld, which is one of the stadiums being used, or

alternatively Centurion is a great area to stay in ( it is the area I live in) with good nightlife and restuarants, and the secong biggest shopping centre in Pretoria.

Are you looking at staying in hotels or B+B's?

The area to stay away from is Pretoria Central and Sunnyside...not your tourist area.

If I can help with anything more, just drop me an e-mail.

Regards

Mike

Hi,
There are quite a few options. Best is to know if you are going to rent a car or not. If not, best is to stay in the Hatfield area, or maybe at The Sheraton in Arcadia.
If you have your own transport, there are more possibilities. Let me know - I will try and help where I can.
Greetings from SA

Travel Tips for Pretoria

Take a walk in one of...

by annipooh

Take a walk in one of Brooklyn's old streets when the jacaranda is at its full blossom. The jacarandas in Brooklyn are all very ancient... and you will find yourself in a tunnel of purple. When the breeze comes, purple rain will start to fall before you realize what really is happening. My favourite moment!

A Pretoria Institution

by PierreZA about Pachas

This is a vey popular reastaurant in Pretoria. I had many visits to Pachas. The food is good and you can have some interesting and unique dishes here (with South African influence). For starters, try either the creamed mushroom soup with biltong or the Springbok Carpaccio. Good main courses include Oryx and South Aftican lamb curry. Unfortuanately the desserts don't match the rest of the menu.
The wine list is ok, with some good SA wines. Mushroom soup with biltong - very unique
Smoked Springbok Carpaccio - most probably my favourite here

Beautiful Blossoms!

by Bwana_Brown

Jacaranda trees bloom after the early Spring trees had already done their thing, so you get to pay more attention to them. When the blooms finally drop, the ground is covered in a layer of violet-blue! It is also said that, if a falling petal lands on your head as you are walking beneath a tree, you will be blessed with good luck!

Cradle of Mankind

by Deefstes

On the western outskirts of Johannesburg is the Cradle of Mankind and the Sterkfontein caves. Here paleoanthropologists discovered ancient skeletons leading scientists to believe that mankind might have originated in Africa.

The caves are certainly not of the most impressive in the world but the tour around them is fascinating.
