Last question

Hello guys,

I now know alot more of South Africa and more particular Pretoria.
Last thing I would like to know is about the nightlife in Pretoria. Nice pubs or clubs?
I also would like to know if anyone of you know a location to organize a party. Some kind of club or something. Maybe somewhere special like an old building or a abandonned airfield.. maybe strange question but I'm participating in a contest to win money to organize a party and am now trying to find a special location.

Greetz,

Kenny

Hey....Are you looking at the Pretoria area specifically?
Because if you are, there are MANY abandoned airfields.
If you're looking for venues in Cape Town I could help you, as I live here. The old cape Castle (where the governor use to live in the 1600 -1800's) is a really cool spot for a "jol" (party). Beach parties are also cool (Clifton and Camps Bay) and what about in an abandoned mine dump in Johannesburg (near pretoria). Think about it...in an abandoned mine dump you won't have problems with noise levels and you'll have ample parking. Just a thought (or two)

A few of my favorite spots in and around Pretoria:

Hatfield (Pretoria east):
Hatfield square features a good choice of pubs (Mc Gintey's Irish pub, Herr Guenther's, News Cafe) and also some nightclubs (Drop Zone, Steel works). It's the younger crowd around there, students, University is close.
More clubs and pubs down the road, cool runnings for instance. Area is pretty safe at night...

Menlyn Square: Behind Menlyn mall you find again News Cafe, Rhapsody's, and Boston Tea Party with life music and a young and beautiful crowd.

And then there is Firkin Pub in Centurion, up the N1 direction Jo'burg, offramp John Vorster, right turn, to the North side of Centurion Mall, opposite Protea Waterfront hotel. Life music 6 nights a week, a mixed crowd.

And if you want to explore Jo'burg, my favorite is Melville, a nice and safe neigbourhood, with lots of restaurants and bars.

For your special places for parties: Most of the game parks offer lapas (so the Rietvlei reserve near Irene / Centurion / Pretoria, the Krugersdorp game reserve, were a decent party can take place african style. Also I believe Pretoria Zoo rents out space...I'm not sure about the mines around Jo'burg (Gold Reef City) or the old gold mine at Magaliesburg...

West of Pretoria near Hartebeespoort Dam is a huge craft Market...not to be missed, african and local poeple bring all their handmade goods from all over the country here to sell...much cheaper than to buy it from craft shops!!! here are places to eat...so make a day of shopping and just relaxing... I advise weekends, its in the vacinity of the dam wall.

===Infrequent public bus system, stops at 6pm (18h00). ===Local Ubuntu Taxis are the answer, R5/R7 a ride. They're usually old Nissans, Toyotas or VW minivans with extra seats, driver plus 14 pax is the norm.===stops anywhere on main streets, gets you from shopping centre to shopping centre.

Union Building

by dejavu2gb

Designed by Sir Herbert Baker, and stretching for 257m, is the gorgeous Union Building, located in the Capital of South Africa, Pretoria.
Standing majestically on Meintjies Kop overlooking Pretoria, surrounded by its beautifully manicured gardens, makes it one of the most popular sights in Pretoria.
The name originates from the time when South Africa was referred to a union, and then in 1961 it changed to the Republic of South Africa, but the building still kept its name, and has been known as the Union Building, ever since.
