Sievers Point Whale Watching

Whale watching is hardly off the beaten path -- after all that's what puts Hermanus on the "must do" list for everyone who comes to S. African and the locals, too! But for some reason Sievers Point which is a great spot for finding whales isn't known by alot of people. I hesitate to mention it here because part of its allure is the lack of crowds! But follow the dirt road leading from the main road just near the golf course and park in the tiny lot and sit on the rocks and get ready to be awed by the whales!

Penguin Colony at Bettiesbay

I prefer this one to the one at Boulders, not so many people and you get real up close and personal to the penguins. They have a lovely path that you can follow with great views

Land Based Whale Watching Paradise.

Between May and November Hermanus is evidently superb for whale watching, when the Southern Right Whales can come to within a few metres of the shore. However I've only been there in February and March so I haven't seen them yet.
Before my daughter moved to run a safari lodge in Botswana she and her husband worked in the Marine Hotel in Hermanus (he was sous chef so whenever we ate there he made sure the food was delicious).
