Heavenly holidays at tThe Tarragon

May I start by writing that I do not normally bother to take the time to do reviews. However, for The Tarragon, I feel I must make an exception and albeit reluctianly, share this little piece of heaven with others. We stayed for a week in Angelica, one of the luxurious cottages so beautifully decorated and tastefully furnished, you could be in a spread from a glossy interior magazine, but which were so thoughtfully equiped and arranged, we felt we were home from home. Each cottage (there are five ranging in size) has a terrace set up with a dining table and sun loungers, to take full advantage of the location. Nestled between two mountains, the stunning view of the valley was quite breathtaking to wake up to every morning. The immediate surroundings were perfectly manicured gardens, pool and B-B-Q which were area both clean and well maintained. From the moment we arrvied to a most warm and friendly welcome to the time we sadly had to depart, the owners Julia & Mark, were on hand to deal with any queries. They could not have been more helpful and the team that they had to service the cottages and gardens daily were fun, friendly and extremely efficient.
Local amenities are nearby including a supermarket and cash point and Hout Bay is a 10 minute drive. Cape town itself is about a 20min drive and the wineries of Constania are on your doorstep. (We visited Groots winery twice,on both occasions eating at the restaurants there and very impresed with both). You really couldn't ask for more!!
I cannot recoommend The Tarragon highly enough and very much hope that I will have the chance to visit again.
Full marks for The Tarragon

We've just returned from Cape Town and our week at The Tarragon was fantastic. My wife, 11-month-old baby and I stayed in Jasmine and it was perfect: chic bathroom, a well-equipped kitchen and a stylish bedroom/lounge area. We had breakfast every morning on a private patio area flanked by a koi carp pond. Lovely. The grounds are beautiful with spectacular views and despite the fact all the cottages were occupied, we felt as though we had the place to ourselves. Brit owners Mark and Julia were very helpful and recommended several restaurants and itineraries. More importantly they also told us where not to go.
Although it's tucked away in the hills, The Tarragon is ideally placed for sightseeing - Kirstenbosch is down the road, Groot Constantia and the beach are both 5 mins away and the whole Cape Point Drive begins at nearby Chapman's Peak. In fact pretty much everything you'll want to see whilst in Cape Town is a quick drive. We will definitely return to The Tarragon - it has a real home from home feel and is incredibly peaceful.
Too good to share!

We stayed at The Tarragon from March 18 - March 22 in one of the apartments, namely Jasmine. Almost all was perfect: The location, the setting, the place itself. Most funny was the artificial croc in the koi pond. Anyway, this place should not change anything (maybe only the temperature in the pool) in order to keep the high quality forever and ever! We'll be back for sure.
More than lives up to excellent reviews
by TripAdvisor Member DamienLondon
We booked our stay at the Tarragon based on the rave reviews in Trip Advisor and the allure of the pictures on the Tarragon site. The place more than matched our lofty explanations. The cottage are decorated and fitted to the highest standards. The views are stunning and it is no more than 20 minutes to Cape Town. Mark and Julia were tremendous hosts and gave us some great tips on things to do in the area with 2 young kids. We look forward to going back again soon
Perfect haven - a must stay!

The Tarragon was perfect for us. A great location a bit out of cape town centre (15-20 mins) and near to one of the best beaches (2 min drive). The pictures on the website don't do the place justice! Very peaceful and relaxing whilst not far from the buzz of Camps Bay, City
Bowl, the peace/views of cape point and False Bay. We stayed in Jasmine Cottage which was really rather swanky! A lovely big bed, 2 private outdoor space areas, a gorgeous modern and emaculate bathroom
(huge shower only). The kitchen was great and thoughtfully equipped with all that we could need - including a BBQ and charcoal for outside! There is a local spar to get any supplies from. The pool area was lovely with great views of the valley. Mark and Julia are great hosts (they live off site near by) and happy to help with advice on the local area. Really recommend this place as a great hideaway if you want to head home each day to relax after a days sight-seeing.
As good as it gets

21 relatives and friends stayed at The Tarragon for my daughter's wedding nearby and it was the perfect place. With beautiful views over Hout Bay, spacious accomodation in 5 cottages around a swimming pool and a fully equipped braii it is great for either self-catering or as a base for eating out in the plethora of excellent restaurants in the Cape Town area. We will be back!
Tarragon Bliss

We (about 20 of us) rented the whole of Tarragon for a couple of weeks.
The facilities are just fantastic with spectacular views accross the valley. Whilst there we had a braie (BBQ) for about 50 people and used the built-in spit to cook a whole lamb.
All the cottages are very well equipped and extremely comfortable - they are serviced each weekday and the staff are very helpful. Mark and Julia Fleming (the owners) are great and will give useful tips of places to eat and see.
Tarraogon is tucked away off the main road and has very good security - through a road barrier and its own electronic gates. It is very quiet but also within easy reach of the city and other 'must see' attractions such as Cape Point, Simon's Town, Chapman Peak Drive, etc. Camps Bay is approx. 15 mins by car and the winelands start just up the road. Alternatively you can just chill in the grounds or take a dip in the pool!
There is a samll supermarket about 5mins drive and the adjacent eatery "Scarecrows" is a good venue for breakfast or brunch.
All-in-all Tarragon is a great place to stay. A thoroughly recommended '5-star' self catering venue. Thanks Mark and Julia for making us all so welcome - we hope to be back!!
heavenly haven in hout bay

I have just spent a wonderful 2 weeks at The Tarragon, owned by British couple Mark and Julia. Along with their efficient and friendly staff of gardener, laundry lady and maids, their guests are presented with 5 separate cottages to choose from, for use with friends and family, or for individual visitors. The accommodation is extremely high standard, set in beautiful grounds with swimming pool (to be heated for next season) and koi ponds, and spectacular views across Hout Bay Valley. It is set amongst a gated park-like development of luxury secluded villas for which a car is essential to visit the surrounding places of interest, particularly wonderful restaurants, although the kitchen and barbecue facilities with terraces also provide good self-catering facilities. We even had a masseuse and beautician to visit and pamper us, thus maximising the relaxation and tranquility. I would love to return some time and in the meantime will highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Cape Town district. T.J. Kent.
Perfect for our stay at Hout Bay

We spent 2 weeks travelling through the Western cape and booked the Jasmine room for our last two days of our holiday.
The place was great and loved the shower view over the valley.
Everything was to hand and we were made to feel well looked after by the owners.
Only a short distance drive too to get everywhere so perfect for a stay if you wish to see all the sights around the Cape.
thanks again
Julian

Staggering - you really will have to go some to get any better than this. The Tarragon really is a cut above. I would have absolutely no hesiatation in recommending this to anyone. Should you decide to go there - which you should! - you'll find everything you could want from a luxury stay and more!
