Crocodile Bridge: Kruger Park Camp - South
This small and delightful camp is situated in the Southeastern corner of the Kruger National Park, on the northern bank of the Crocodile River, from which it derives its name.

Safari tent accommodation: Safari tent accommodation (interior)
Safari tents - nothing fancy, but practical, clean and it IS as comfotable as ever!... :)
Unique Quality: Up to 4 people can sleep in this tent. All KNP linen is provided, but I usually bring my own facecloth and an extra towel anyway
Dining is only a short walk away at the rest camp restaurant or cook on your own braai (BBQ). Each safari tent is positioned to provide maximum privacy.

Safari tent accommodation: Safari tent accommodation
Being fans of camping, this appealed to us! It was a large and comfortable safari tent built on a raised wooden platform.
Unique Quality: It is certainly not basic, with excellent linen. They are fully furnished, have a little balcony, braai area, fan for cooling, cooking utensils, plates, cups etc. and a fridge.
It is raised off the ground so the view is lovely, plus it's a far more 'pleasant' idea to be off the ground with all the creepy crawlies (especially the long slithery types!)... haha

Accommodation choices at the KNP: From no frills to fuss! It's your choice
Some camps are very commercial, with all the luxuries you might need.
Others are very basic, with paraffin lamps and basic, rustic accommodation.
Unique Quality: All camps have their own flavour and charm.
The luxurious ones will have spas, posh restaurants, swimming pools and all the luxuries.
A less commercialised camp might have a stunning rock pool and basic necessities. No frills but very comfortable.
KNP linen is very good and comfortable, no matter where you stay.

Letaba Rest Camp: The Elephant Rest Camp
Letaba is one of the prettiest camps in Kruger. Although it is quite large and may have a large population of campers, the views over the Letaba river are gorgeous. It is possible to watch the animals in the river bed from the camp’s many shady benches and restaurant. There is an interesting elephant museum here that showcases the largest seven elephants that lived in the park. There mammoth tusks are on display as well as information about where they lived and what kind of temperament each had. There is information and diagrams on the life cycle of elephants, ecology, social structure as well as other unique info. There are sections on the illegal ivory trade and the gruesome tactics used to kill the elephants.

Mini market
Petrol Station
Good bathroom and shower facilities

Shingwedzi Rest Camp: Most Charming Rest Camp in Kruger
Shingwedzi rest camp, although the largest, has a wilderness feel about it. The riverine forest along the Shingwedzi River is increadibly beautiful with huge fig trees hanging out over the river. There are huge herds of elephants in the region that like the maponi forest located away from the riverine forest. Baboons, vervet monkeys, as well as crocs and hippos also like to hang out along the river. Cats are here too. In the four days I spent in and around Shingwedzi I saw, lion, leopard, large spotted genet, and African wild cats with young.
The camp has all of the amenities like the others. The drives here along the river is really nice even if you don’t spot the animals you are looking for. Sundowners on the H1-7 bridge over the Shingwedzi shouldn’t be missed.

Punda Maria: Kruger's Northernmost Restcamp
Punda Maria is the northernmost restcamp situated near Dimbo Mountain. It is located on the only accessible sandveld areas of the park which. Punda has a more wilderness feel about it. It is a small rest camp but very beautiful. The region gets 700-800 mm of rain a year and is therefore the parks lushest region. In the northern region you may find a higher diversity of birds as well as more of the rare antelope species like nyala, roan, sable, and tsessebe. Elephants are here and lion as well to a lesser extent.
Unique Quality: Mini market
cooking facilities provided
pool (just put in during time of writing)
good bathroom and shower facilites

Crocodile Bridge Camp: A Hut in the Wild
Close to one of Kruger's entrance, to Nelspruit and Komatipoort, and to Mozambique (from where I was travelling), this Camp can be a very good base-point for exploring the wild wonders of the Park.
We stayed in a hut (for 4 people), which include bathroom, outside kitchen and barbecue facilities.
We didn't travel far (due to time limitations), but we made it at finding all the big-5: Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, and, the most difficult of all, the Leopard.
Unique Quality: It is cheap, close to the edge but also to the best the Park can offer.

Thornybush private game reserve: luxury accomodation
We spent 24 hours (1 night) in this private game reserve.
Included in our price we got fullboard and 2 game drives (one in the evening and one in the early morning).
Unique Quality: Private game reserves are usually expensives, so you get a lot during your stay.
The dinner was wonderfull and the athmosphere inside the camp was really amazing. Everything was perfect and the service was very good.
During the game drives we had the possibility to see lions very close, the rangers and trackers know very well where to find animals.

MalaMala Kirkmans Camp: Sabie Sands Wildtuin
Sabie Sand Wildtuin is a Game Reserve next to the Kruger National Park (right west of it).
It lies around the Sand River and over the Sabie river, hence the name.
The private nature reserve hosts different Bush Camps.
One of them is Kirkmans Camp, located with a nice view of the Sand River.
Most people who come here, seem to be flying in, but there are also roads.
Due to the floodings we had some problems getting there, but the employees of the park were really helpful and took us in one of their jeeps from the gate to the camp.
Unique Quality: The Camp itself is great. Built in a Colonial Style. Separate Bungalows and a Bamboo-fenced Area where you can have dinner under the stars.
They offer a lot of attractions. Morning and Evening drives, Bush-walking... etc.
Also there is a nice Swimming Pool with an exelent view of the Sand River.
Dinner is served outside under the stars. Food is excellent. They accompaign you back to the tents (with a Riffle), since there are sometimes lions around....
As for the price: no, this is not cheap. But worth it!
