Bartholomeus Dias felt the rage of the Cape Storm

In 1847 Dias , en route to the east , encountered a ferocious storm here and eventually ended up at the Gouritz river more to the east coast of Africa.

Dias 's monument and replica of his "Karveel" can be seen at the Dias museum.

From the harbour you can take a boat to the island (full of seals and smelly).

Closeby is Hartenbos with great accomodation and swimming beaches.
