Log Cabins: Self catering in Graskop
We stayed in the Log Cabins in Graskop for two nights. The log cabins were big enough for four people, they had two bedrooms, a bathroom and a well equiped kitchen. The only thing was the moist, as we were there in winter, it was hard to get the cabin warm and dry. There were mold spots in the ceiling in the bathroom. Otherwise the cabins were clean.
Self catering in Graskop, is the way to go, as there are not many restaurants open at night, specially during off season.. But you could chose to eat in the same one every night.
Our Verdict:
Reasonable price, but not a place we would stay in for a week.

Floreat Riverside Lodge: Spa Lodge in Sabie
My stay here was nice. The rooms is quiet spacious and nice. There is a spa here which is quiet nice. Also there is a chapel if you thinking of getting married and some honeymoon suites. Breakfast was ok as they had a nice variety. They also have a buffet dinner which was ok as they had variety of meals every day. They also have a nice pool and next to it a pub where you can go for a drink , play some pool or maybe get a pizza which is quiet nice.

Mount Sheba Country Lodge: Hidden in the hills in the Pilgrim's Rest area...
If you yearn for the comfort of modern times, and a peek into yesteryear... this is the perfect place. Tucked away in the mountains above the historic mining town of Pilgrims Rest lies this upmarket and well known hotel.
It brings you back to basics in a comfortable way, taking you back to the past, with all the comforts of the present. A superb hotel indeed.
For birding enthusiasts Mount Sheba is a 'Mecca'. There is hiking, trout fishing and so much more on offer.. lots of outdoorsy-type activities to do.

Royal Hotel: Victorian Royal Hotel
Since I was a little girl, and first visited Pilgrim's Rest, I have always wanted to stay at the Royal Hotel.. so it was a dream come true for me to actually stay here... and it was even better than I had hoped for!
We stayed in the annexe to the hotel, which used to be the town's local bank! It has a lovely long balcony that runs down two sides of it.
Inside is a large and comfortable bedroom, with a passageway for a cupboard and place for your suitacses, which leads to a separate WC and a bathroom, with an original old victorian bath.
This hotel is a space caught in time - buildings are made of tin and materials of the day, as they were during gold rush days... style is Victorian.
I love the typical sunken bath and the old fashioned handbasin.
There is an open fire in your bedroom, and a ceiling fan, as it does get rather hot here during summer!
The complete hotel tip is on my Pilgrim's Rest page, with much more information.

Graskop Hotel: Splendid find in Graskop!
We were enroute Kruger National Park to Johannesburg, so only needed one night stayover at this hotel... and we wish we had more time there!
It was such a good hotel!!! The accommodation, huge pool, service, food, gallery artwork... all are to a high standard and worth recommending.
The unique quality lies in it's slogan: "An art gallery you can sleep in..."
... for it is exactly that! There is artwork in the form of paintings, sculptures, woodwork, industrial design, furniture etc. all around you. Whilst you enjoy your breakfast (in front of an open fire), or your dinner... you spend your time looking around at all the incredible artwork.
I will do a separate restaurant tip for the hotel as it is stand-alone, the complete hotel tip is on my Graskop page, with much more information.

Hawkshead Guest Farm: Cheap and friendly
When planning our trip I wanted to be just outside Kruger National Park the day before we entered to proceed to Lion Sands. As we were expecting to arrive in the Nelspruit area in late afternoon and proceed very early the following morning I was looking for cheaper, yet clean accommodation for the three of us.
Never in our wildest dreams could we have asked for a lovelier place than the Hawkshead Guest Farm.
Hawkshead Guest farm is exactly what the name says it is. A cosy corner just before Nelspruit with a few farm animals and rondavel type accommodation.
Our chalet was spotlessly clean and very well equipped.
Our hostess, Val was super and in no time we had settled down to rest after a long road trip from Klerksdorp in the Free State.

Mpumalanga accommodation: Variety of accommodation available!
Enjoy accommodation of all types (from basic to luxury), good food and the best wildlife experience ever - an all round must-see if you are travelling in South Africa, Madiba-land :)
There is other accommodation outside the gates of the park, and private accommodation within the park where you can be accommodated too.
We have stayed at a few of the Kruger National Park camps, Graskop Hotel in Graskop, The Royal Hotel in Pilgrims Rest, as well as at a friend's family home in nearby Schagen (neighbouring Sudwala Caves), so have experienced a good variety of quality accommodation in the province, from the more basic to luxury.
You will not be disappointed on what is on offer.
They have high season during summer and school holidays - summer here is over Christmas!
Accommodation bookings need to be done as far in advance as possible.

Tons of options...
Mpumalanga consists of many little towns that in a South African context still does not really qualify as "cities". The biggest town in Mpumalanga is Nelspruit which is quite a bustling place but even here you get the sense that life is very much centred around the beautiful area it resides in. Therefore there are many Hotels in Mpumalanga that range from the cheaper less comfortable to the expensive and luxurious. I really don't think that anyone will battle to find something that suits their particular needs - so best is to have a look around. There are also many, many, many guesthouses in this area and in my opinion makes for a very nice comfortable and reasonable form of accomodation. People in Mpumalanga may not always be as trendsetting and cutting edge as their counterparts in the bigger parts of SA but people are very hospitable all over and will most probably make up for any dissapointment you come accros in this regard
Blessed with stunning surroundings it is hard to find a place that does not offer a good view around here. Mpumalanga is also one of the hottest regions in SA (subtropical climate) and many places are equipped with ceiling fans, aircons and pools to make your stay during the hot summer months more comfortable.

Aventura - Blyde Canyon: Blyde Canyon - best location
The resort is situated on a cliff, 160km north of Nelspruit and a mere 50km north of Graskop. We were 4 people and we stayed in a chalet with two bedrooms: Main room with double bed, and the other with2 Single beds. Open plan lounge / dining area with television. Bathroom with a shower. Fully equipped kitchen with microwave and fridge. Carport, patio & barbeque area.
There is a shop in the resort where you can bu groceries and prepare your own meals, or visit the restaurant in the place.
We stayed there for 1 night only but we saw people, mostly families spending a whole week there.
The place felt like it had seen better days, but it's location is unbeatable.
One of the best viewing point of the Blyde River Canyon , is just at the end of the road inside this "Aventura Blyde Canyon" Resort.
